Sennheiser HD 595 - cracking after 2 years

Just checked the Sennheiser site and noticed the warranty is only 2 years. I guess I should have checked the warranty period before the thin little cracks (which I thought were just cracks in the paint) turned into rapidly growing cracks on both sides. I never imagined "premium" audio gear would only include a 2 year warranty. I never imagined it would be falling apart this quickly either! But apparently this is (was?) a common problem for Sennheiser.

I purchased these on Jan 27, 2011, so I'm now 2 months beyond the 2 year warranty period.

I'm certainly not paying $80 for $1 in plastic parts to fix $140 headphones. Is there any way to buy these parts through Sennheiser or a 3rd party?

Thats very common of the Sennheiser HD 595 cans. Which is why I never bought em.

Next time buy yourself a real premium headphone like a Denon headphone.

the previous gen denons d2000/5000/7000 were mostly plastic too and had problems with a poorly designed hinge breaking.

This happened to my Senn 280 pros. It was just aesthetic since there's a metal band underneath, but annoying nonetheless.

How did you pay for it? My coworker has a Chase Blue that doubles all of his warranty's purchased on his card. It is possible....

Give me a Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic for actual long-term build quality

A lot of people stretch out phones like some reverse Thighmasters when they're putting them on. Few cheap (and not many properly expensive, including Denon's superceded 'Premium' ones) phones will survive that abuse unaffected.

this happened to my 555's 4.5 years after i bought them

so i replaced them with 595's 4.5 years ago, and guess what happened today?

HUGE crack in the side

sigh... guess i will try to epoxy them.

epoxy working well so far - hopefully i can get another year or two out of these babies

Funny...I have 595s and hadn't really taken notice of the cracks until this thread (even though it's a bump). Mine are almost 8 years old. Not quite as bad as the first picture.
