hmm seems like a decent deal.......i got mine from ubid.com a few weeks back for 44 shipped.......they have been sitting at my house for a fgew weeks now......but i am at school.......i go back next week so ic an pick them up and let you all know how they sound. does anyone out there have tehse that can tell us if they are any good?

Are they Digital headphones(whats digital ready?)
I have a Dell Inspiren 8100 and Archos Recorder 20gig MP3 player that I think both have a digital head phone jack.

Info doesn't say digital Sennheiser retail is $169

I've owned the Senn 535's for about 5 years and they are an absolutely outstanding pair of headphones that used to run for ~$130 a few years back, and were selling for $100 with a ProLogic decoder recently. They're absolutely a steal at this price, and sound enormously better than the Grado SR-80's (which I own too) and they're 10x more comfortable too. You'd probably have to spend ~$800 or so on a pair of loudspeakers to surpass the 535's (except for bass, of course). One word of warning is that in my experience, these sound better when driven with a decent output stage (e.g. stereo receiver) rather than a portable CD player -- I assume that the portable devices don't have the capacity to power the larger drivers effectively. Anyway, this is HOT. Good post. If I didn't already have a pair, I would pick them up myself at this price.

the last time i checked, they were about 200.

It's a good pair of headphone that are of open design. For $55 it's an excellent set. If someone wants to compare $200 headphones then they need to compare to 580's.

For what it's worth the 575 model has a reserve of 59 bucks on ubid. No one bids on it. I've won 2 at that price without any other person bidding. Worth a shot...

Theyre an older design, but theyre a very good one.
I'm very tempted to order one to add to my collection.
If you say they sound better than mediocre, you didnt have them hooked up to a good source.
and ValsalvaYourHeartOut is correct, these sound better with a true amlifier driving them, altho they'll still get plenty loud thru your sound card.
hoihtah - MB Quart makes some nice cans, but when hooked up to some good equipment, the senns beat them in every respect imo.

also, these are open cans, and they go around your ears, not on them. Your ears wont even be touched.

i have been pretty hesitant about them since i personally like closed monitor headphones....and have never really tried any open design headphones but i figured for the price it was worth getting. check out ubid.com too...like i said i got mine for about 44 shipped a little over a month ago.

Never heard them, but you really can't compare $200 headphones to ones that retail for $130 and are now selling for $55!! Transducers (speakers, headphoens), more than any component IMO, have a strong and powerful correlation between price and sound quality, so you'd probably want to listen to the Senn 580's, for instance. But as I always say, if it sounds good to you, then that's all that really matters.

I'm tempted to get them because they're the closed type, not like the Grados where the pad lets out a lot of sound for the people around you to hear. Buttt, if they're an old design, I wouldn't want them that bad.

Theyre open cans. If youre looking for closed, go for teh sony v6's.
And old design != bad design
They were way ahead of their time when they were first released. They still sound very awesome.

Yum Sennheisers!! They Rule!

I own a pair of the HD490s (bought 'em refurb and they work excellent). Sennheisers are truly the top of the line and for this price they are a steal (well after the shipping and then tax it's more of a four-finger discount). I like Sennheiser so much that I don't really need these but bought 'em anyways (in case my other sennheisers break and so i can have nice 'phones at work).

I think they are really cheap cuz they are discontinued.

Also, if they do break, theyre very easy to fix
the headphone cords are detachable, and you can order any single part from sennheiser.
Its built so you can take it apart and replace a piece yourself.
