I have these headphones and have been very happy with them. I know I paid quite a bit more than $38 for them and am considering another pair for the wife.

You might be able to find a better deal but personally I think they are worth the money.

Is there a way to take the mic off? Im looking for a decent pair with no mic.

How do these sound anyway?

I have one of these and paid 50.00 +tax for it a year and a half ago. In my opinion, this is the best gaming headset I have used (bought it primarily for UT2004). It beats a lot of other headphones in quality and comes backed with a 3 year warranty (which I had to utilize due to manhandling and causing a buzzing in the right ear). The RMA was easy and I received my replacement headset in less than 2 weeks.
Also the mic does NOT come off, but you never notice it when it is pushed up and the headset is so light and comfortable you forget you have it on which is probably a big reason why mine had an issue as I would get up to walk away from the PC to have the headset rippped off my head now that I think about it.

I suspect this has better sound quality than other budge headsets, but definitely not the best for gaming. I personally own a budget headset and am too poor to buy one of those $100+ headsets, but please do know the better quality headsets will let you distinguish footsteps much better in CS. This is just an example.

Best for gaming in this price range! I had the Zalman Theater6 before I got my PC150s and the Senn's sound much better than the Zalman's and the mic is exceptional. These are light(ish) and very comfy. Mic moves out of the way easily. Has inline volume control and mic mute. A++ in my book.

does this have an on / off mic switch on the cord? I had some small ones that had a switch on the cord.

I have these right now and I really like them a lot. I have had 4 other headsets and this one is BY FAR the best. They are very comfortable with padding on the ears and headband, and the mic provides the clearest, noise-free sound I have heard from a headset.

Highly Recommended...at this pricepoint, you really cannot lose here.

BTW - these use the analog inputs, not the USB interface like the PC 160.

Go to Sennheiser's website and you will see some description differences.
I noticed The PC 160's say 360 degrees. I'm pretty sure PC 150 have surround, but probably not as good as the PC 160.
Also there are versions with some sound card like thing on the wire.

People who bought these headphones just lost out on a better deal...

http://www.buy.com/retail/Product.asp?s...5084&Type=PE&Category=Comp&dcaid=15938

This is the lowest price I could find on these headphones currently. I bought them when Day of Defeat came out, and when my DSP 500 headset died on me. These are the best gaming headsets out there. I have posted this deal in a concurrent post here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=40&threadid=1720949&enterthread=y

I did own a Sennheiser set long time ago, and they were decent. But I don't think paying ~45 for these is worth it when compared to the Plantronics.

What kind of environmental-sound insulation do these give? My current set has good sound quality but I can hear all the rest of the noises around unless I crank the volume higher than I like.

I forgot to mention that when you wear these headphones you will have alot of trouble hearing any background noise.

This could be a plus if you have a spouse that rambles while sitting next to you. I have been given the evil eye too many times for not responding to a question.

You have been warned!

Uhm, I use a cheapo Sony MDR-v300..... but I can hear footsteps ultra easy...how?

Just use an equalizer (I used the software one for my soundcard)....reduce all the other freq's, but keep the footstep higher. I can't remmeber what freq to boost...10k?...don't play anymore.

Anyhow....headsets are good, but better boost the footstep first!

Do these cover your ears or press against them? I have a logitech gaming headset and they press on my ears in order to stay on. After a few hours my ears are killing me.

I'm trying to find some over-ear (cover) ones that are usb (though not exactly madly searching). I'm curious as well, since the pc-155's seem to be the same headset but usb.
