i bought it for 50 bucks from amazon a few weeks ago...so 35+ tax and handling is still better than that. they're good headphones. pretty comfortable too.

just an FYI, PCMall.com and Ecost.com are the same dealer. PCMall doesn't have "handling" fees, but their prices may be a tad higher. You might want to check PCMall and see if it comes out cheaper.

I have these, and I love them. Of course, i got them when they came out for about $60. Oh well...

And they DO need breaking in. What I did was let winamp play randomly overnight every night for a week. Broke them in real well.

While perusing their collection of Sennhieser's I came across the HD570 for $90. Are these the predecessor to the HD590?

be aware that alot of people share the opinion that PX100 sounds better than PX200. the difference with the 2 being that the PX100 is open-air and PX200 is closed. I just had the PX100 shipped out a few hours ago so I cant attest how they sound like.

However, if you want good portable phones, try the Sennheiser MX400 earbuds. They are 9$ SHIPPED AND TAXED from sennheiserusa.com refurb. Mine came in brand new packaging. They sound so fantastic, especially for earbuds. In fact, I find them almost as good as my Koss KSC-35--costing 3 times as much (and worth many times more).

The advantage of the MX400 over the ksc-35 and px100 is that even though they are both super portable, the mx400 are so much more so!!! the comfort is also awesome. and lastly, since they are earbuds, they barely leak out any sound that might upset others.

well thats my shameless plug and propaganda

i have mx500's earbuds and px200's, the px200's sound oh so much better. and i've also have seen many people say that the 200's sound better than the 100's. so take it for what it's worth, everyone has different listening preferences.

i got the portapros for over a month now

sounds great, very good bass, doesnt hurt the ears after wearing it for a long period of time (the side cusions help relieve pressure on the ears), and lifetime warrenty

i find that only lightweighted headfones are suitable for me. i cant ever find big heavy cupped headfones enjoyable. my ears hurt after awhile. anyone else with this problem?

I received it today too. I found that to get good sound out of it, you should adjust the ear pad by tilting it up/down left/right to get the best sound.

I own the HD497.. the cables connection sucks! It keeps losing connection.. and I have to move it around a bit until the connection comes back...
Sennheiser warranty sucks too.. they wouldn't let me replace it because i don't have the receipt.. bastards.. gah!

other than that... these sounds very nice.. though the cable makes it sound 90% worse than it should..

Are you sure it's the connection for the Sennheiser headphones and not the device that you are plugging the headphones into? Have you tried to connect them to another device to see if the issue goes away? In regards to receipts, if you ordered the Sennheiser 497 phones from an on-line vendor, you should be able to get an on-line copy of your receipt to provide to Sennheiser. If you can't get one, maybe, they'll accept a copy of your credit card statement showing the purchase amount and place of purchase along with the date to back up the warranty.

Best of luck. I don't think it's Sennheiser who sucks ... but, maybe you could keep better track of your receipts/records so you can provide sufficient proof of a purchase when making a warranty claim.

I got the PX200 a week ago and love them. They are very comfortable, even with glasses, and have good sound. I use them primarily for late night DVD and TV viewing.

If you can get them with free shipping and no handling fee, jump on it -- you won't regret it.

Unfortunately in this case it's Sennheiser that sucks. I had two consequtive pairs of 497 returned to Curcuit City because of loose connections - the right earpiece was crapping out. The problem would go away if I moved the cord near the base of the right earpiece but it would always come back. The SA offered me to try a third pair but I refused... If you read forums more carefully loose connections is a common problem for certain sennheiser models.

Sennheiser 424's for me...still. I got them in high school about 24 years ago. They're still clean, crisp. These went for about $75 back then and that was real big money considering a new Camaro was "only" $4500.

Actually, I've spent more time in the audio and home theater forums on other sites. This is the first I've heard of Sennheiser plug issues. But, I don't doubt that they exist. Sennheiser is a great name and recently, they've flooded the market with <$50 headphones. The $150 - $400 Sennheiser headphones that were known to be of excellent quality are still out there - but, more people will jump on a pair of $50 headphones and rely on the Sennheiser name - and expect such quality.

I have a pair of Grado SR-60 phones at the moment and would love to get into some Sennheiser headphones, too. I guess before I make any purchases, I'll have to do adequate research to ensure they don't end up in the trash a few months after purchasing them.

Koss headphones have a Liftetime Warranty. Break them in 20 pieces and send them in for repair, they don't care!

my god, i cant stop raving about these PX200. they are now 29.99 with 3$ "shipping" fee for 33$ total at ecost right now. i ordered on an afternoon and received it exactly 3 days later. these things are, in one word, phenomenal.

ive owned koss ksc-35, porta pro, sennheiser px100, which are all really well regarded by the audio community at this price range but the px200 blows them all away. great build quality, tremendous bass response, combined with a sealed design that has potential to blow your eardrums with how loud they can get.
