Fry's had a great price on release day but I saved on travel and 10% more with a price match to the local Circuit City = $14.69. Serenity used to be #1 in sales but has dropped to #2 on Amazon's site.

I watched the Firefly DVD thinking hey I think I've seen some of these episodes before on TV. Once you get over the quaint/cheap set feel it sorta grows on you. I really don't care for Mal's speech/delivery. Perhaps it was the stylized old West dialog burdened with philosophical lines. I liked the other characters fine.

Serenity was fine but not spectacular. Usually when a main character get killed off there is an emotional payoff / big death scene. One death scene was more of a red shirt death. What I thought odd was the need for the Assassin to off his own people and the Armada sent to capture one ship.

0roo0roo are you on some kind of anti-Firefly/Serenity quest? Just wondering because every Firefly/Serenity thread that pops up you are there bashing it.

Amazing movie, my wife and I had to rent the DVD as soon as it came out.

I thought the movie was mediocre at best.

you see, you shouldn't base general popularity on amazon ranks. it is a tiny segment of the market. in rental/dvd sales serenity is doing as bad as the films original release. the simple fact is after years of building a fan base the movie still bombed. all the firefly dvds supposedly sold through amazon did not translate into massive goodwill towards the film. it should tell you something after a while. you can see the effort to distort reality here http://www.fireflyfans.net/amazon.asp

You should probably post charts that include the week Serenity was released. And the one chart (imdb) that covers up to the 25th is rental only. Rentals are crippled by availability, which I think may be part of the problem as I had a hard time last week buying WS, so who knows how many copies rental outlets have.

Its fairly decieving to post sales charts that don't cover the movie you are slamming.

It seems to be doing just fine at blockbuster, because not a single copy can be found around here. Whereas I was able to find multiple copies of wedding crashers...

Here's a better deal: go to the brick and mortar Wal Mart and buy the dual pack of Hulk and Serenity for $20. They sell Serenity standalone for the same price, but with the dual pack i think you cant choose widescreen or fullscreen.

By the way, as a fan of the show i gotta say the movie sucked. So dark, so drawn out. The series on the whole, imo, was punchy and fun. That's not what this movie is

Yes.

Contrary to the views of many, I thought this was one of the best movies I saw all year. The story was great, the sfx were fantastic and believable, the acting was solid. I also liked the way they took any cliches you may have anticipated and twisted them into something quite different. It was pure sci-fi with a great balance of action and some more cerebral moments--and there's not much of that around anymore.

I'll definitely add it to my collection.

I never saw the TV series and when my wife rented Serenity I thought "lame space movie". The first 5 minutes into it I was convinced it was going to be stupid. then It just took off and I was hooked, totaly enjoyed it.

Curious though, was the movie set before or after the TV series? Also is the DVD just one season? I think I'll have to pick this up.

I'm not really sure I understand all the disdain for the movie either. I loved the series, and enjoyed the movie equally. It did a good job wrapping things up.

The movie takes place after the series, and the DVD of the show is 14 episodes (in the proper order this time).

I've never seen Firefly & didn't know anything about Serenity until this thread.

The reviews @ Amazon are actually pretty good. I might have to check this out.

Thanks OP!

Seems like river was just coming out of her shell in the movie. So if it takes place after the series do we still get to see her kicking ass and taking names in the series?

No ass kicking. Doesn't take away from the show though.

It would be cool if the DVD sales revamp the show. It did for family guy and futurama.

I have never seen the series but bought the DVD from some of the reviews I read. I must say that if the series was anywhere near as good as the moive..... they need to bring the series back.

Even on a low budget this film was much better then many of the hollow, over bloated and over CG'd (cough.. Revenge of the Sith... cough) movies for the year. I especially loved the humor. The one thing that I noticed though was that the Movie followed a slightly different story line in the series as the characters seemd to maintain their original rolls, but took a few alternate turns getting there.

Still great flick! I would reccomend it to anyone.

After watching the movie I rented the series and watched it almost nonstop. I had never watched it when it aired because I would catch just a part of a show and didn't really understand what was going on. Apparently a number of watchers had a similar problem due to the fact that Fox didn't air the episoded in order. I think it would have helped to show the pilot first. I am certainly hoping that the show will be revived.
