I think they're meant to be out around X-mas time, so a month or so until they are released, but that doesn't mean they'll be widely available. Might have to wait a while before we see mainstream adoption.

Until we have S-ATA support in the Chipset, I personally see no point in getting any S-ATA Drive. IMHO.

Can someone explain the main difference between the two?
I just bought the WD 80gbSE and feel a bit of a fool now since I'm not building my computer until January, should I be worried that I wasted my money?

Don't worry about it, serial ata only means you get a thinner cable, and lower power consumption, the speed difference is negligible.

On availability... I work in a computer shop and every single one of our vendors say that we won't have availability until sometime mid January. Hope this helps

I heard that serial ATA is quite a bit faster, does anyone know if this is true?

The interface is faster. It is 150MB/sec. Then the next version of it will be 300MB/sec, and then the next will be 600MB/sec... unfortunately hard drives can't even begin to saturate the current 133, let alone the 150...

Hell, most hard drives can't even saturate an ATA66 bus... we need faster hard drives... not pipelines for them... yeesh... YOU HEAR THAT HARD DRIVE COMPANIES?!

I see Serial ATA as another nice luxury... it's more of an evolutionary step than a revolutionary step though... Besides... you can use bundled IDE cables and get basically the same niceties
