Not a drinker, just do water most of the time. Smoothies in my blender & sometimes fresh juice if I feel like making it in my juicer. I used to like soda, but not so much anymore with food allergies & all. I do an occasional Hosmer Mountain soda, which is an awesome local soda company, or a Virgil's Bavarian root beer on special occasions. I do faux milks sometimes too...chocolate almond milk is the bomb. Man, my diet is entirely too healthy

Penguin, don't bother posting about science and calorie burning here. Quite a few still believe they can eat in a deficit and gain weight, because their bodies defy the laws of physics.

So, we're a science-oriented forum except when it comes to nutrition?

Since we can pick and choose when to apply physics, gravity does not exist and penguins can fly...specifically me. I'm off to the Seychelles.

It depends if I have any beer carbonated and ready to drink. I pretty much just drink what I brew these days, so when I have a batch ready to go I'll have a couple most evenings. I don't brew all the time though so I go through long stretches of not drinking at all.

Yeah, almost every day. Often times more than just one. Get pretty tipsy probably twice a week.

Nope

I don't really like cheap beer, and don't want to pay to drink better beer every day. Frankly I'd rather have soda or juice most days anyway.

You would think logic, math, and physics would be prevalent in all aspects of this forum, but it isn't. There are members who have actually stated they've gained weight while eating at a calorie deficit and that eating less doesn't cause them to lose weight. It is rather strange, honestly.

Well, not bragging, but I eat very very shitty, get very little sleep, and drink too much. I do go to the gym, but am also in pretty damn good shape for being so old, and not taking care of my body. Not everyone's body is the same. I know I am lucky, just saying.

Nope, not anymore. There was a period of about 1.5 - 2 years where I did everyday, just about all day. Before work, lunch break, breaks at work, etc. Nearly a fifth a day. It was terrible and sucked. Been sober for a little over 15 months.

Before it got to that point I didn't drink everyday, but I did at least every weekend and I almost always got shitfaced, not just buzzed.

What the hell stout has 1000 calories per 12 ounces????

12 ounces of Guinness has less than 200 calories. Come back to reality, man.

Yeah, most I was able to find was 295 calories for a 12oz. beer (it was some Scottish Ale).

Most days, yeah. Will either have a beer at dinner or a glass of wine or a tug of scotch/bourbon after working out and before I go to bed. I rarely eat anything after dinner and don't eat any desserts. I also do not drink any other fluids that are empty calories short of a touch of creamer in my coffee. So I'm not worried about calories.

I love the taste of most adult beverages, and it's a great relaxation at the end of a very long day.

Maybe by "stout" he meant "homemade eggnog with extra cream, a couple sticks of butter and a pound of fatback."

I don't, but every few weeks I'll have one a day for a couple days in a row. I think I average about about 3 per week, but it really depends on mood and circumstance.

I'll get buzzed maybe once every 3 weeks. Drunk every 3-4 months.

Only beer, never liquor or mixed drinks. No hangovers, could be that I only do it on beer so there is the hydration factor, or that i dont ever get drunk enough.

I was getting hammered 3-4 days a week. My new year's resolution was to only get hammered 1 day a week. It was costing me too much.

I used to drink very heavily (liquor) every day years ago, but now typically I don't drink to get drunk much anymore.

I really enjoy beer so I drink that fairly often, but I don't have it every day.

To be serious for a moment, I'm sure there are stouts that are more calorie laden than a normal stout. Ive drank oatmeal stouts that made me feel like Ive consumed a full meal. You have your chocolate stouts and other types of craft niche beers that use different spices etc... to achieve their flavors. IMO the 1000 calories per 12 ounces is way excessive even for the heaviest stouts.

It's not about the oatmeal or the chocolate. It's mostly about the alcohol content. Imperial stouts have 2x the typical alcohol content by volume than a normal beer. But that's not even really stout specific. Any high alcohol % beer is going to be higher calorie. There's a small increase in calories from the higher grain content used, but most of that is used to fuel the yeast for higher alcohol levels.

Yeah, well every day is the wine with dinner but I try to also have at least a couple shots worth of bourbon/scotch/cognac every night.

1a) Fun fact, 6oz of craft stout can have around 500 calories in it. A single bottle of a craft ale around 300.

What kind of beer logic is this?

What the hell are you talking about? A 6oz stout doesn't have around 500 calories - more like 100-150 calories. A single bottle of craft beer VARIES on calories, with most of the beers you drink daily running between 125-190 calories.
