I drink a beer or two every day after work. Helps keep me sane, plus nothing melts the stress away like a nice cold Belgium beer.

Who wants to fund my liquor / drinking problem? I have half an ounce of rum left and it's probably low in alcohol content because it's evaporated into the bottle (partial pressures)... Baby wants a 1 liter bottle.

Half an ounce? Who gets down to the last half ounce and decides "better leave that for later"? That's like putting an empty milk carton back in the fridge. Unacceptable.

And, honestly, if you're going to get a patron to fund your drinking, step up from rum. Rum's cheap. Get someone to finance an extra aged cognac habit.

Though I've had times when it was nearly daily, definitely not every day. Drinking "La Crema", a 2012 Pinot Noir from California, at the moment. I've cut back since I started working out again. I define "too much" as the point where there's any negative effect, either long term or short term. For the short term, if you're hungover, you had too much. For the long term, if your habit is taking away from important parts of your life then it's too much. If you're unable to identify that before it's too late, you probably had bigger underlying issues to begin with.

For about 6 years I drank almost every single day of my life. The last 2 of the six wasn't as serious, 4-6 beers a day but I ended up doing a lot of damage to my body. Recently I've started only drinking once or twice a week, mind you I am actually drinking to get buzzed.

No I do not. I don't even have a drink every week now. Drinking is a rarity for me at this point. Alcohol just puts me to sleep and when I get home from work I'd rather be awake to spend time with my wife & dogs than asleep on the couch wishing I had more energy.
To update this, since it's been bumped for some reason, I still don't drink often. My last beer was about a month ago. I barely drank over the summer. Since the above post, I've lost ~55 pounds and am far healthier - did a half ironman this year. Now I don't drink for health reasons, and I've become highly skeptical of an alcohol lobby as I've done more research into alcohol's effects on fitness.

To be clear, I love beer. And Whiskey. A lot. But I've decided the ill effects are just not worth it, even for one or two beers from time to time. So it's still a rarity, but I'll be surprised if I have any alcohol between now and Christmas, and that includes my birthday (which is tomorrow).

It's unusual. I used to be a pretty heavy drinker. One of my good friends and his GF pretty well only drink, or do things associated with drinking. I find I can't even relate to that lifestyle anymore, but seems like every time I talk to him he is telling me about being out at the bar with his friends. I am surprised at how much I do not want to do that at all though, which I think means I'm making the right choice for me.

I drink every day mostly to help me sleep. I have severe insomnia. I've tried just taking an ambien and it's not enough. Now I use Lunesta, the max dose of 3mg, and if I just take a Lunesta and sometimes add some melatonin too- I'll just lie in bed staring at the ceiling. It's brutal. So before bed I drink a couple of stiff vodka drinks with orange snapple and that is enough to work with the Lunesta to knock me out, and I get my 7-8 hours.

Severe insomnia is debilitating. Nothing like laying awake night after night. Even with the formula I've created sometimes I'll still wake up after 4 hours of sleep only. In a couple of those cases I then popped 2 Lunesta 3mg pills and that put me back under. But I don't have that many Lunesta to spare, I get 30 a month. Every year my bloodwork comes clean on liver and everything. I do ingest a lot of sugar with the mixers but my blood sugar is fine. No problem with weight, I'm 5'10" and 169lb. So far so good.

Wow. You need get off the crutches if you want to walk on your own. Have you seen a sleep specialist? Do you ingest caffeine or other stimulants during the day? Watch TV or stay on the computer until just before bed? Maybe you don't need 8 hours and should be getting less sleep each night.

Lastly, maybe that alcohol is affecting the quality of your sleep, so really just perpetuating the problem. I know alcohol often knocks me right out, but I don't sleep nearly as well, even after just a couple of drinks. It's easy to think it "helps" me sleep, but it's exactly the opposite.

Just some suggestions.

Damn, be careful, sorry about the insomnia. I don't sleep much, just learned to live with it.

Drank a lot after high school then adult years at least one drink a night. Ac hefty (White Russian) and twice I had a Alcohol overdose after going on a binge. First time almost died and was put into a coma for 17 days. Second time not as bad but I never realized alcohol could make you hallucinate so much. I am not an alcoholic in the traditional sense as I can still the rare wine or beer at a restaurant its the gallons of vodka or bourbon that are ,my enemy.

Drinking today. Had a beer, and decided I wanted a buzz, and am now drinking Famous Grouse. Otherwise, I haven't had more than two drinks per week. in the last months.

I rarely drink coffee or tea and I don't drink soda except with whiskey at a bar - a few times a month. It's not caffeine. I do take adderall a few times a week but never too late, but I've only been taking that for 5 months so it's not that either. This has been going on for many many many years.

I have tried just melatonin but no effect. Have not done a sleep study but when I get insurance in January I'll see if my doctor can prescribe that and if insurance will cover it.

I do watch TV or am on the computer until bedtime. I've tried going to bed with just the lunesta but I just toss and turn for hours.

I know alcohol is good for getting to sleep, but will wake you up earlier than ready a lot of the times and not give you fitful sleep. I don't have that issue due to the lunesta having a long half life. Once I am up and dressed and ready to go I don't feel tired throughout the day like almost ever. So I feel while it's not the best way to induce sleep, the quality of my sleep is fine.

It's not an ideal solution but its the only thing working at the moment. My sister says try meditation. I haven't, I don't believe I can tune out my neurotically racing racing mind but maybe I should give it a shot. In the warm months I would give myself a nice workout during mid-afternoon riding my bike in the city. That wasn't enough to make me tired hours later when it was bedtime.

I seriously get drunk off my ass each day. Does that answer your question?
