I just bought a Hercules 3d Prophet II MX. I'm running Windows 2000, and I installed the 6.18 reference drivers for it. The 2d seems to work fine, but I can't get 3d working well at all. I first tried Quake III. It runs for about 3 seconds after I enter a level, and then immediately hangs. I then tried GLQuake. It doesn't hang, but the graphics look REALLY screwed up (lots of tearing and visual oddities). Also, the heatsink on the chip seems to be getting really hot (hotter than I would think it would be from all I've read about how cool it's supposed to run). I bought the card at a Best Buy, and the static bag it was in inside the box looked like it had been opened before (the seal was torn). I'm wondering if I got a bad card that's been returned before. Does anybody have any ideas? By the way, my system config is:
Dual PII 450s
Epox KP6-BS (440BX)
256mb Ram
Intel NIC
Creative PCI Sound
Diamond Fireport 20 SCSI, etc.
By the way, there are no conflicts, irq or otherwise, and the card is on IRQ 9. Thanks for any help. Also, I was using a Voodoo3 3000 before I got this card, and it worked great in both games (this makes me think it's the card).
