Just go to the advanced graphics controls and turn on HDR. Then, after you have loaded a level, check out the command prompt with the tilde (~) key, and it shows up right there

Hmmm, Doesn't work on my X800. You verified that it works on X800?

Console reports "HDR Rendering is not supported"

hmmm.... well, that sucks. I will go take a shot of what it looks like, I don't know if the console will show up, but it is worth a shot. If it is just shader model 2.0, HDR should be supported on ATI. It may be like SC:CT in that a patch will be forthcoming... sorry for the misinformation, just logically it should work...

From B3D interview with Dean Sekulic, looks like HDR will have to wait for the next Radeon gen. Link

Since SS2 is a TWIMTBP game, should we expect any NVIDIA-only features (like Depth Stencil Texture)?

Even better - HDR! Our HDR is the feature for all hardware that supports FP blending and filtering. So yes, you might say that it's NV-only feature. For the time being.

Have they managed to keep the same wide-open level feel whilst still having fairly decent foliage/vegetation / objects and stuff around the player??? Was one of the best things about Serious Sam FE/SE.

I thought Serious Sam already had a sequel a year or two back? Or was it just an expansion?

I remember having SS1 and then buying the one after that. I had MANY problems with it locking my pc and other problems to go along with it. I read on the SS forums that many people had problems with it and it was'nt a hardware problem. I ended up selling it on the FS/Trade forums here

As for HDR, what's the exact console command to set all shaders to 2.0, blckgrffn?

I feel that the game is pretty fun. Lots of replay value. However, my 6800LE suffers a bit(low FPS) when things get intense. Remember, this is just the DEMO version of the game. The bugs will be worked out by the time the game hits retail. (Come to think of it, I can't think of any retail game *cough BF2 cough* that has shipped that has had any issues what-so-ever )

Conclusion is SS2 uses FP16 HDR? Yup, that'll only work on NVIDIA 6xxx-7xxx cards. You can hope and pray for a pixel shader implementation for it like HL2.

I think it looks very good. At 1920x1200 with every in-game options at the highest, with AA/AF cranked up, it looks very sharp and crisp. Ive got some pics, but they are 6+ megs taken with fraps... Dont have a conversion tool to make them .jpeg or .png.

As for BF2, I think it looks very good as well. For sure one of the top games in its field. I can think of no other game that looks as good as it does, and has the same gameplay or as large of levels as it does. When its cranked up to the max, its a great looking game. TA makes it look even better, with all the fences in the game.

Cool game. Why don't these bloody people add 1280x1024 nowadays. BF2 doesn't have it. SS2 doesn't have it. FEAR doesn't have it. Gah.

I don't think they're that bad. And I can't believe you give BF2 graphics such a high rating.

QFT.

Any game can utilize AA.. it doesnt make sense to crank the aa and claim a game has superior image quality

Yup I just love mindlessly shooting things. I don't like all the strategy involved in Battlefield 2, et al. as much. Just too complicated and I have to be awake to play it (sometimes it's REALLY fun though). I never actually played the original SS, but this reminds me of Quake 2.

I had the video on maximum and I kind of froze while playing. Then I took it down to medium and I was able to play without real bumps. Would that be because of my X700 Pro?

the auto detect settings recommends 'medium' for the x700 series as well as the 9800p . . . i got lucky with my 9800xt . . . it will do 10x7 on 'high' with no slowdowns [minimal AF]

i will buy this game!

These days I steer clear of demos because they don't tend to indicate the final product very well.

Strange considering the resolutions Serious Sam:SE supported. On the other hand, it also ran in opengl, but come on, it had multi monitor support. Something like 1280x480 res and what not.
