[Serious] What kind of animal poop is this on my fenced-in lawn?

This is the third time it's happened, and it's pretty effin gross. I'm genuinely puzzled because my lawn is relatively fenced-in all around.

I didn't take a picture, but I can describe it perfectly.
  • It's shaped EXACTLY like peanut M&Ms, but about 10-20% smaller. Generally sphere-shaped, but can be slightly oblong.
  • The color is dark brown. Again, it's just like shell-less peanut M&Ms with 1 or 2 crack running through em.
  • The 'instance' of pooping consists of 20-30 of these, spread out in a circle size of of a mouse pad.
  • Considering they're not 'stacked', they must be dropped from a certain height. So deer?
  • I live in Northern NJ in a densely populated area. It's an urban-suburb.
  • It tastes bit bitter and irony.
It happened twice in July & again just now. Based on the mass, the animal must be larger. How the hell is it coming into my fence?

What can it be- ground hog? Doubt it, they stick to their hole & its immediate area. A deer? Impossible to come in.

I found a video with a 7' fence, but it had swearing.

You want to fence them out, raise the fence to 10ft.
Deer are up day & night.

Guessing deer based on your description. I lived in northern NJ too and they are very common to the area. Also, deer are great jumpers and can clear a 6 foot fence easily.

Yeah sounds like deer poo.

You think that's gross? My dogs LOVE to eat deer poop. Whenever I see them rooting around in the grass I know a deer has come visiting. We have a bunch of deer (on the lake, heavy woods).

I was walking through the woods yesterday and my great dane puppy had something in its mouth, I told him to drop it and it was tennisball sized Elk poop clump. Bleh. Don't let your dog lick your face...

Dogs are nasty when it comes to poop munching. Our friend had a huge Belgian Shepherd that would lay these enormous turds only to turn around and devour it all hot and fresh. One of the most disgusting things I ever saw. Another fiend of ours has a my excellent compatriot hound that would regularly stick his head inside the kitty litter box and munch away. Blah...

You say it's fenced in, but these can easily fit underneath. As soon as you said oval pellets it reminded me - wild rabbits, like cottontails. We get them too. Not sure about the quantity of droppings as we didn't see as much as you describe. Do you see patches of grass dug up in your (or neighbor's) lawn? They like to hide things like squirrels do. Last time, a rabbit hid 4 newborns. I had to mow around them since I didn't want to displace them.

I would say to employ a motion sprinkler, but you're getting cold weather soon...

Definitely deer. I'm just a bit north of you, we deliberately send all our deer across the border to poop on you.

You need a 10 foot wall to keep them out. They'll attempt to jump over anything less than that.

I know a local guy who's into building walls. He's got something going on right now, but he may be free in about a month or so. I'll let you know.

WTF is "relatively fenced-in all around"???

It's either completely fenced in or it isn't. If it's one of those 1 foot tall flower bed fences, that doesn't count at all. And if there's a 10 foot opening in the fence, doesn't matter if the rest of it is 100 feet tall - it may as well not be there.

Whitetail deer can easily jump an 8 fence, but they're not jumping a tall fence every night just to eat your rose bushes.
