Ok here the deal. Like 3 days ago I've disc checked + defregmated my C: hard drive where the windows xp pro is. After that next day, I got the black message saying that some file was not able to open in system or system32 folder something like that. Anyway, one solution was to format+ reintall the windows. The installation was succesful until I came across an BLUE SCreen. IT came up like 8minutes before the setup was over. I tried it again, and got same error.

Next day after, I got a new windows xp pro cd. I insalled the windows with like 2 errors saying that some files couldn't be saved or smthing like that, but windows works. What do you think, is something with the hardware? The system defragment did something wrong?

defregmated... sorry, had to laugh at that one .

The defregmater wouldn't do anything to the drive that would survive a reformat (I think... was it a quick format?). Could be a coincidence on that. It does look like a hardware issue to me.

lol, I didn't have my spell checker on xD lol. Anyway, what part of hardware is this issue with? Yeah quick format, I didn't know that full and quick formats are different, except one just takes longer lol.

The error looks like a problem with your hard drive, IDE/SATA controller or the cable between the two. I would backup your data to another drive as soon as possible.

The only difference between a quick format and full format is that a full format will check the integrity of each drive sector (and mark failing ones as bad).

Right, I remember that not too long ago I have added one more 160gb hdd to my system. It is running on SATA 150, with a jumper because my system doesn't support 300..

Sorry for double post. I've reinstalled windows with full format. I can't install sp2 because library catalogs couldn't be saved! What should I do? Should I make a Partition of the other hdd and then install windows there ?

OMG MAGIC PARTITION 8 DOESN'T INSTALL : FAILED TO COMPLETE INSTALLATION

1. Defrag may have simply dropped a good cluster into a previously unknown bad spot on the disk.
2. That error you got was likely "missing or corrupt windows\system32\config\system" indicating a damaged registry hive.
3. A blue screen during setup is often indicative of failing hardware but there is a slim chance that #1 above is still haunting you. If you did a quick format this may be the case. If you did a full format which checks for errors then hardware failure is the more likely. A stop 50 is pretty generic: hardware or driver.

I would suggest:
Run chkdsk C: /R
When prompted go ahead and reboot. Check your application event logs for a winlogon event that has the results of the check.

As for the errors: Yeah I'm not a fvckin genie. You'll need to post what they are before we can help.

Oh, and stop using partition havok - that thing does awful sh1t to your disk.

Back up now . It really sounds like you have a hardware problem at this point. Drive may be failing, or the controller. I don't know enough to say, but since these problems have survived your attempts at formatting and reinstalling, it doesn't look good to me.

ok, so that chkdsk output was bad. this means one of:

1. You had a dirty shutdown or other such event that caused some corruption to the filesystem but your disk+controller are otherwise ok.
2. Your hardware is failing.

Run a 2nd chkdsk. If you get new errors then it's #2 for sure. If it's clean you may be ok from then on.

In either case if you quick formatted it would explain how problems with #1 could have made it past your rebuild.

If it looks like #2 then retrieve any data you can then abandon the disk and install elsewhere.

The error in that screenshot was indicative of file corruption. In this case the corrupted files are in your catroot folder. This is where the signature information for installed signed drivers is stored. I have no idea what the consequences of corruption here could mean. It could result in some odd things like problems with signed drivers loading. This really isn't practical to fix. Reloading the OS (after you get the disk issues sorted out!!) would be the solution.

Also check your power supply's voltages as best you can (check in the BIOS's hardware-monitoring section if you don't have a good multimeter). Is the power supply a good-quality brand with enough wattage to push everything in your rig, including your new hard drive? Unstable power could contribute to your problems.

Good point, I was on the edge of the power supply unit. But it all happened after like 2months of new hdd. So I dont think that is the case. Anyway, I took out my old hdd and I have new one left. Seems to be workin good.

Yeak OK. The OS helps a lot when the hardware is done.

It really sounds like a HDD to me as well, and I would recommend replacement, however you should also run Memtest86 to make sure you don't have any memory errors.

I just encountered this problem and it was definitely caused by a bad hard drive. Back up your stuff ASAP!
