Holy shit, I've seen people stop while trying to merge before (also know someone who got rear ended when the person in front of him stopped), and I sometimes see people slow down too much to let people merge, but a complete stop on the highway? Wow.

People don't fucking know how to merge btw. It is RARE to see someone do it correctly. About 90% of the time, if they do everything else right, they merge at too low a speed, say 40 mph in a 55, or 50 mph in a 70 (no matter how much room they have to get up to speed). And of course you have people not looking for gaps and just lazily throwing their car into the lane and hoping others will get out of their way, people purposely trying to block people from merging, etc.

The only time I've seen complete stops like that on the highway is when there was an accident and traffic has already slowed down to ~10 mph. That's beyond idiotic.

Yeah, it's usually a mix of a) people on the onramp not knowing how to properly merge, and b) people in the right-hand lane not knowing how to behave when merging occurs.

Although if you ever REALLY want to test out how bad your road rage can get, pull up to a standard four-way intersection when the traffic lights are out. Apparently I'm the only person in each of the three states I've lived in who knows that you just treat it like a four-way stop. It's really not that hard...

Omg yeah people are so clueless when the traffic lights don't work. It actually makes me laugh.

At least it's not an old lady doing 40 Km/h and you're following behind her trying to merge onto the country's busiest highway... F*ck that was a bad experience.

That's pretty bad. It's right up there with the idiots that try to merge and end up stopping completely. I think they should lose their license on the spot for doing something so dangerous.

Reminds me of the time I watched a woman in a little Honda shitbox stop at the top of an onramp in rush hour. The highway is packed, but we're all at 65, she's stopped on an uphill, with a line building behind her. I have no idea how she ever got off that ramp.

Simple solution, really. Switch over to the left lane on the highway when approaching a ramp with traffic. Leave the right lane that they need to get into empty. But slowing down on the highway is yes... dumb.

If I'm in the right lane and unable to move over, I'll usually get off the gas or cruise control to let someone in because of the time, the mergers seem to be unable to control their speed correctly, and if I did nothing they would probably side swipe me.

But would I ever come to a stop? Hell no. I've seen people that were merging stop before though... dumbasses.

Yea. Shit like that's infuriating. Especially when you see an open spot on the highway, but because an idiot in front of you is a slowpoke, it makes your merge much more dangerous.

On ramp is usually 1/4 miles or longer around here and some how people thought it'd be ok to go up to 40mph by the end of on ramp and then try to merge to 65mph traffic...

The worst part was that everyone behind you thinks it's YOU who is the one going so slow since their view is blocked. I could see the hand gestures from the driver behind me in the mirror.

Lol, yea. That's why in situations like that, I drift off to the side a bit so that people can see that I'm not the one holding shit up.

...People don't fucking know how to merge...

Another joy is the combined on ramp/off ramp cloverleaf. The freeway guy is getting off when the ramp guy is getting on the freeway. And they can't decide which one should go first.
Freeway guy should be slowing down to take the curve. Ramp guy should be speeding up to merge with freeway cars. Freeway guy should blend in behind ramp guy 99% of the time. But half the time it is a cluster.
