Server 2008 - File locking issues

I got a user thats always complaining about file locking, i check net files and shows 0 lock. I have auditing turn on and it shows mods, delete successful, etc.

Is there a better monitoring tool besides parsing through 50 thousands lines of log file... thanks in advanced.. free ones preferred or something with trial before I spend money on it

not sure about finding a cause, but to find a process handle that has a lock on a file, use processXP. go to find dll handle, type in the name of the file that is locked and click search. this will show you all processes on that server that are "using" that file. from there you can kill the process, stop the service, etc.

apparently it wasn't file locking.. they always assumed that.. turns out the fving bloomberg api wasn't updating and they assume the file at 0 size meaning they're unable to write to it, not there is no data coming in for writing..
