Server and Exchange Licenses

My father's business is looking to put in a server 2003 and exchange 2007 box. I have been to cdw.com and they have all different types of licenses for both server and exchange. What is the difference between open and select licenses and can I buy either? The business is not government related.

Ah, MS licensing.

You can buy either. For a small company, Open is probably where you will go. If your fathre's company is small, you may want to consider Small Business Server. It has Exchange built in. That'll potentially save you alot over having to buy server CALs and Exchange CALs.

CDW is pretty good about helpig someone with licensing questions too.

Then I would really look at SBS 2005. It will be much cheaper than buying Windows 2003 server and Exchange plus CALs for both.
