server brands?

hello who makes a good server in general. I am talking servers that run windows 2003. It was sugested by a group of network people that hp is the best. Curently there is one Dell server in the office and the two will be paired up. My personal experience fixing hp desktops has been hp quality is kind of low. What about others? Sorry I cant realy tell you what this servers use is gona be yet since i dont know :/. It probable its main use will be for storing huge cad files. Would an Opteron or Xeon be beter for this? Comments welcome I was asked by someone what type of servers would be best for their buisness and since I'm more of a desktop guy I cant realy say.

Don't rule out IBM... They aren't the largest server vendor and #1 computer company in the world for nothing. From what I understand HP support has been sucking as of late.

Problem is you aren't stating budget, rack mount or tower, etc.....

I like HPaq servers, and I've had a bit of experience with IBM's xSeries as well, not anough to make any kind of well founded judgements though.
Don't know about Dell, I've never dealt with them personally, I've just heard mixed oppinions, from "They rock!" to "They're so-so".

As for HPaq quality, their business desktops are very nice these days, we use their d530 series at work, in fact Im typing this on a d530 CMT.
Their servers are definately very good in terms of quality.

Between Dell, IBM, HP and the white-box server built in the basement of a sweatshop in Chinatown, you might want to investigate SuperMicro servers with ServerWorks chipset.

But then, if you are buying volumes, nothing beats buying (10+1)x dell servers and swapping yourselves faulty components. Don't buy the extended warranty from them. Buy RAM and hard-drives from a local supplier. In case of a problem, swap out the external components before the tech(...) comes.
