I have a very frustrating issue with my internet connection and was wondering if it's the service/phone line or did AT&T gave me a lemon of modem that's causing random disconnection.
I just recently sign up for the service in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area, at first I connected the modem directly to my PC and every once in awhile (like once in a couple hours or so) the modem would lose connection and it acted like it was resetting itself in trying to get the connection back. Very frustrating when playing online games.
Now I'm using it with the Belkin F5D8233-4 router and problem occurs even more often. Like every 20-40 minutes. It just lost connection a few minutes (reverted to "Local Only") ago when I was playing online game with my PS3 and downloading on my PC. Had to unplugged/reset both the modem and router to get connection back.
The modem (Motorola 2210) is very warm to the touch, so could it be overheating or do all modem get very warm like that?
I live in a very old apartment building, so I'm also wondering if the phone lines are not in the best of shape.
