WOW what a thread eh? Regardless of what project someone is running, this is a great forum. The people here are always willing to help someone else. You dont get that just anywhere. To come in here and attack one project or the other makes everyone defensive. I run Seti, and if someone came in here and attacked the validity of any other project I would get their back! It's not about who is running what, it's about the community and the TeAm that we are all part of. In the end does ANY project make a difference? It all depends on who you talk to. I feel that ALL the projects here make a difference! Like I said, it's not entirely about the project! It's the TeAm. Where else can you go to see absolute strangers defend one another, like dmcowen674 for example. I dont know him from you, but when I heard of his troubles I did what little I could do to help. I have posted many questions here that have been given very good fast answers and that is what matters to me. So do me a favor, dont come in here pounding your feet about this and that and disrespect my TeAm! :|

Jevans,

I really don't think much of anyone provoking ill feelings against anyone. :frown:

I do what I want to do.:|

You're entitled to your own opinion no matter how unimportant they may be. Just keep it to yourself!

jevans- I'm glad to see your post. I wish more people would wonder in to the distributed computing forum and inquire about what is going on. If you read the posts of Elfenix, RaySun2Be, and Crazee you will find the opinions of many of us here and some very good information on the usefullness of the SETI project.

I encourage you to give Distributed computing and Team Anandtech a try. You don't have to do SETI, you can choose any project you like. Right now we have very active ECCP and Folding teams that would love to have you join them.

Well everyone feels differently about many things. DC is not exempt from this. We are fortunate that TeAm Anandtech participates in a wide range of DC projects and does very nicely in them. Members of TeAm Anandtech also have the advantage of interacting with an outstanding bunch of people who love to participate in a community computing project. I for one love this TeAm and hope you decide to pick a DC project that suits your taste and crunch for the TeAm

I think if you would edit the thread title and your initial post, then the hostility would pass. BTW, I don't think any of my TeAmmates are worthless including you, I would recommend that you edit the above statement as well.

I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt but after that post you can politely go %@&$ yourself. If you want the thread locked go over to Forum Issues and request it. You're the one who started it in the first place you friggin' troll. Be gone...

Yeah, SETI may not find any ET signals at all and I don't run it. However, it's one of the distributed projects which attracts the most of eyeballs from general public. In future, this user base could switch to other more meanful and practical distributed projects. That's the point of SETI as I know.

I second extended comments and information provided by RaySun2Be, networkman on that SETI is the grandfather of DC proving DC works. Crazee for taking time to post Web links to an excellent list of very solid science contributations SETI contributes and his responding in such takes time to bring everything together (I am a slow typest) (other people along Crazee's lines of links and information.)

As for my little bit I did a little bit during the time of semi early SETI not for any reason except forward vision that we have of other DC projects and spin-out of information from group colaboration; 1% inspiritation 99% perspiration. (some [lots] computer power.)

I did SETI again for a bit for fun and a race and had a blast.
I later had permission for serving leagally and pay a little extra (and have my own web pages.) And a fully stable very nice computer setup with most everything and UPS, let the power drop out as it may.
So I was able to be a setiqueue server and help out a speed broadband bottleneck that I was able to get on the tail end at least and help some. When I first started the queue up to make sure I got to feel needed a person put one computer on me with an excuse and that I think he could have fixed if it really did exist. Others eventually joined. Now seti bandwidth is fixed but I will keep running for some months in case a hickup occures unexpected. I will go back to a medical DC project sometime but its great to say I've been here with SETI that developed in millions of helpers and now part of Anandtech.

Do me a favor and explain this statement. What DC project are you running that is more "meaningful and practical" than SETI and please explain why you feel that way. I'll wait for your answer. [deep inhale]

I was going to take the time to explain my reasons for running Seti ( Which I have done on and off since 1999 )but after your later post I decided you're just not worth my time .You can't explain anything to persons with closed minds like youself
