SETI - Anyone know how much of their bandwidth is being used?

With all these fast machines about (1GHz+)& new ones joining the affray ,eg Athlon Palmino(3hr WU's!!) ,I'm wondering what Berkleys bandwidth useage is atm?..................

I think they only get 10Mbps free from Berkley. I think they're pretty maxxed during the day, and at night, probably only running at 10-20% usage. I think that version 3.01 or whatever it was had them pretty much maxxed all the time, which of course caused their stuff to crash at times.

I'm estimating this from having a 10Mbps connection up at school. It routinely gets up to 10Mbps from good sites, and from the Seti site I've calculated up to 9Mbps really early in the morning(4-5AM EST). During the day it sits around 0.5-1Mbps max. It still zips through a WU very quickly though.

*Scowls at current 56kbps box of hell that people actually refer to as an Internet connection* :|

Assim1, I thought they said back in Nov/Dec that they were sharing a 100 Mbps connection, to which they were allocated about 30%. I tried to look it up at their site, but it wasn't in the Technical News Reports. I think we have a ways to go before they make anymore changes like 3.03.

Also, are they keeping up with the new data being recorded? IE: can they process a 1 hour radio telescope recording in more or less than an hour? I bet they have more CPU power than they know what to do with.

I guess if that's the case you would have to say the Seti@Home "concept" is one hell of a success!

What is the latest estimate as to when the experiment would be considered complete (using the current science)...with or without success in finding ETI ? Or is there one?

I'm on 56k too

It should be in the news reports for 2000 but there is only a passing referece to it.

Nexus9
They have enough cpu power to check each WU 2-3 times (they always have WU's double checked anyway).
BTW did you have a look at those anomolies that me & Smokeball noticed in your team list? ,eg B1er is shown but his active account b1er isn't.

They have plans to use a telescope in the southern hemisphere (Australia I think),this will give us a load more WU's to do.Still dunno when it's gonna happen though...........

Found this

2001 and beyond: Due to the incredible response we will be able to extend SETI@home past its initial two year life span. We're planning for SETI@home II now. We may increase our radio band coverage at Arecibo by adding another recorder system. We may add a recording system to a telescope in the southern hemisphere so we can see an entirely different part of the sky. We'll also add new features to our web site showing more details of the process of the analysis process, and show in more detail your personal contribution to SETI@home

Here

We've already exceeded their original 2yr plan.

Regarding B1er and b1er, I think Nexus have the same problem I had..
In a database it's normal not to seperate between B and b, when comparing..

I had to change my update to keep them apart..
But now they are...

Soni,

I would like to commend you on a very nice stat page. I look at it several times a day.
