Since I already run the TAS selected project on a couple of CPUs, I'll devote my usual TAS CPU to SETI classic when LM is done (or when I get a chance). If I get bored, I'll try to fire up a closet cruncher or two...

My guess is this will never end...
I've lost count for these requests for help of the TeAm in need. Ok, sure I do understand that Seti is 'different' then most other projects since it's the biggest and for most people, they've joined the Anandtech community because of Seti.
But begging everyone to help you out does sound a bit strange to me... Members will always leave in a bad time, this is really not the first time..
I really like helping projects in need of help, or to bring more attention to a specific project, that's why I've joined TAS, but the past year I'm getting a little 'full' of Seti.
And since this also seem to affect the TAS schedule, I'm not sure about what to do with this.

If al this energy was directed in trying to get SNC back to the TeAm, I'm sure that would be able!
Sorry for the loss of this big producer and also on the forums as far as I know a great contributer, and I hope with all of the TeAm's efforts BBR will be 6th again soon!
Good luck!

Damn!! I leave town for one day and all hell breaks loose!

We almost had a 350k WU buffer over BBR, now we are fighting to just get 5th place back. It is going to be tough as they will fight back. I will see what I can do to get a few more WUs.

I do agree with CyGoR, we need to look outside the TeAm for help. We don't want to pull ressources from other deserving projects just to put us ahead of BBR.

Does anyone know why Eugene left us?

I agree to a point. I know why SNC left but I don't know if it's within our power to get him to rejoin because his leaving really has nothing to do with the TeAm. I wish SNC didn't choose to leave but I also wish the reason for which he left didn't "exist" too.

Since Berkeley "always" uses longer than expected to do something and unforseen problems can crop up, like the Snap crashing multiple times before at last stabilized, they're probably not announcing "officially" before the new systems really is up and running and is working. Also, they're probably not sure at this moment if faster database means splitters/transitioner/scheduling-server/validator will keep up with demand or if example needs to "cannibalize" more computers as splitters & transitioners.

On the other hand, everything can go "perfectly" so everything is up and running next week.

In any case, since a user is "active" in "classic" if returned anything the last 4 weeks, would expect atleast 1 month from announced shutdown till they're not accepting more results...

I switched some back from UD, so you can expect about 8-10 a day from me. I'll see what else I can do as well.

A few hundred at least.

Edit: Correction

According to Hellburner's numbers we are now 234,331 behind so make that 500 - 600 X 3 Ghz P4s.

I'm seeing average WU times of well under 10 hrs, how is this possible? My old 2.3ghz barton averaged 15 hrs per unit.

Also adding my 28 units and about 400 hours.

Hi Mike
If you have time that slow then you must be running the screensaver and not the client version.
The client version is much faster, your Barton would do work units in under 3 hours running the client instead of the 15 hours you are seeing now.

Has anyone contacted SNC? I understand why he left but he's really punishing us, his fellow TeAm members, not Anandtech itself.

Hi mate
You to seemed to of missed a major point & I take it you haven't read Rattle Daggers thread either
They >have< the new hardware for switching everyone to BOINC (recently recieved) ,they just need to set it up.

I realise that we have asked before which is why myself & a few others have held off from making any further 'help' threads over the past 6 months or so (yeah I'm pretty sure its been that long)

I would love to able to give you a date so the request doesn't seem so 'big' but I can't ,atm it appears unlikley that S@H1 will last much beyond next month.

Yep he certainly is ,he's hurting us (especially by joining BBR!:|)& not the main people he has aggrevance with.
He has been contacted btw

You must of been running the GUI version with the graphics showing

I've got an XPM2500 @2.54GHz & it does WUs in 2hrs (181FSB) (v3.03 CLI)

Did they gain another ~85k from a megaflush or a new account?

Would some extra people help when there's an end date? & say a short lead time of 2-3 weeks?

I have just added two Xeon 3Ghz machines on a temporary basis. I may be able to keep them going for a day - maybe for a couple of weeks.

I wonder how many WU this will produce? They each have two processes going.

The problem here is that AT is a single entity no matter how much we try to keep ourselves separated from the rest of the AT community. Those who sponser this team, keep the DC forum here, and run/admin the forum can "fix" it - but don't seem to be willing to do so. Yes, it has nothing to do with the DC forum itself and that is a hard pill for some to swallow but AT is a all encompassing entity that has made it's choices. Like I said - I may not agree with SNC's decision - but I do understand it is more complicated than just one little thing like being given a vacation.

Hi Assim1!

I didn't miss that 'major' point, because you've just pointed the one thing that's the real problem with Seti. You can place a bet that there will be tons of stuff going wrong with setting up the new hardware (or re-installing old) which will take ages again.
It looks to me that they are in an endless loop, and they really need to pop out of it now.

This might not be the last thread whith this kind of subject for this particular project
Don't get me wrong, my DC life started with Seti also. Learned many new friends at S@NL (where I started) through the forums and in real life. Also here, I couldn't wish for better people on this great forum!
But since ever since the name 'BOINC' appeard, something got delayed.. And the whole image of Seti is getting a little immature in my opinion.
And I feel guilty for feeling this way since this project brought me so much...

Put it this way I won't bet against ya ,however it isn't quite an endless loop.
I would say this new hardware they've got advances things a lot & breaks 'the loop'.

So would you (& others) help for 2-3 weeks when the end date appears?

I haven't forgotten your rootes btw

Happy christmas mate

I just added 9 P4 2.8 machines - I expect they will be in production for only two days, but they should pump out a few WU's
