SETI Classic - We need help

man i have been away for long....

and the worse is i won't be able to fire up my home machines. ill try to make a few call and try to ask few of my friends to fire up seti.
so sorry guys!!!!

I moved my 2.3 gig A64 back to seti classic from boinc. Got my P3 450 router on it too. I'm really just a few parts and a case away from an athlon 1Ghz and an XP3200 as well...

It's been a long time since I ran Seti.....the systems I mentioned in my last couple of posts(just above this one) look like they will do 85 WU's per day! I would have started back sooner if I knew about this. Too bad I can't keep it up until the end....

I had to take most of the systems offline already, as they were needed, but they did 52 work units in twelve hours - those P4's are good at seti!

Just fired up the setiQ for my farm. Wow it been a long time since I ran seti. It was my first project and the reason I join Anandtech.

Well, I broke down and got a P4 3.2 GHz with a PT800 Mobo. Just got it running last night and it seems it will do between 16 and 19 WU/day. Have not done any tweaking. I had mentioned before I that I have a problem with power in my computer area. Well, I put a wireless card in a machine and put it downstairs as a print server. My wife bought that idea since the printer had been on her notebook and she leaves it at work 3 days a week. (Yes, it is loaded with WUs and she leaves it on.)

I also have a new work computer on the way. My old one was a Dell Latitude CPi-A PII-366 that averaged 1.3 WU/day, the new one SHOULD be a Pentium-M 1.5 GHz w/1 GB RAM. So, between the two new additions I will be over my goal of 143 WU/Day! Might even get close to 150!

I decided to join in on the fun, but am having a problem. I think I followed all the instructions, but when I enter my email address to get my password, it says something along the lines of "we have no user with this email address".

Also I had gone through to the point of where it downloads the first thing and process' it. After which i stopped because of being busy with the holidays. I just started finishing the instructions and got to the point where you save the config, and now every once in a while a DOS like box pops up saying "New software version - deleting temp files" and it just keeps coming up. I am thinking I messed up somewhere, should I just start over or can i fix it?


Edit: is that box possibly coming up while it downloads a WU? It seems that way to me now.

that box w/deleting files is when it caches wu mosat likely as it will do that untill the cached wu number you set is full
you can check in the folder where you installed seti to see if there are a numerous amount of numbered folders

those are the cache its building

Are you a returning user or are you a new user? Make sure you pick the appropriate number to log on.

The pop-up box is suppose to be there. It will disappear when the WU is fully downloaded.

BTW, are you running it with SETI Driver?

Yeah the box has stopped coming up, as I expected and you said, it was downloading WU's. I am a new user, what number do I need to enter to log on? And what else do I need to do to finish becoming a member and joining team AT? It appears as though I am already processing WU's, but who is getting credit for it?

I think its 1 for a new user ,but I'm not sure.It does tell you though (as does Smokes instructions)

If you look at Smokes instruction 13e that'll tell ya what you need to know to join TA

To check out your own stats & info go here & enter your SETI email add

You have to go to the main Seti site Located Here

Top left corner, there is a join button. Click on it.



If you are already crunching WU's, it will transfer them over to the TeAm.

After that, HAPPY CRUNCHING.......:thumbsup:


If you already have WU's downloaded, you must have picked #1( new user), otherwise it wouldn't log in....

I must have missed reading the step about picking 1 or 2, and unless I did it by accident I never chose 1 or 2 in any box that popped up.


Edit: actually that would have been before the holidays, so maybe I did do that and don't remember, but why is it telling me they have no user with that email address, and I never got sent a password to my email address.

Go into your seti file on your computer... click on the file called "user_info.sah" and see if it has a user name stored there. DO NOT change it though. Let me know if it's what you used to sign up.
