SETI: counting times question

I have got a following questions to all of you.

Facts: Since Fri Oct 4 07:45:34 2002 UTC I have completed 44 SETI work units.
Average CPU Time per work unit is 7 hr 41 min 15.6 sec.
Configuration of my PC is as follows: P4 1.8 Willamette, 1 Gb DDR RAM, no overclocking.

Questions: is the average time of unit completion is normal for my machine? Or am I supposed to expect faster times with my CPU and RAM? If yes, what can I do to make my machine count faster?

Hi, maybe some of us can help you get more out of your rig

First, do you run the CLI client or the screensaver? This can make a big difference in times, the CLI is much faster.
Next, what operating system are you using?
Finally, do you leave it on all the time, or turn it off sometimes?
Leaving it on and running seti all the time will of course give it more time to do more seti work units

First of all, thank you for your attention and questions.

Answering Wiz's questions:

1. I am running the client not as a screensaver, it is sitting in the system tray. I have been doing this since the beginning of my participation in the project. The version of the client is 3.07 (Windows GUI). To view current progress I use SETI Spy version 3.2.0.

2. I am using Windows XP Professional operating system without SP1.

3. SETI client starts with the system (it is in the start up) and is working all the time when the machine is on. I do not turn it off.

V3.07 windows gui is the screen saver.

you need 3.03 winnt-cmdline get it here

This will bring those times down to under 3hrs.

Q: Where can I get the description of command line client?

Try the 'What is Team Anandtech SETI' link in my signature. It gives you instructions on how to install/run the CLI client and also how to use the accompanying 'SETI DRIVER' (you dont have to use this but it moves the CLI to the system tray and gives you good control).

Just to add a few points

Even if you had the GUI version minimised & running only in the sys tray the CLi is still about 25% faster!

I did not even expected that so many people will help me with advice!
Now running CLI version of the application and reading the document that Migroo has given link to.
Going to see the the progress in counting times soon.
