Hi all,
I shall register myself to this event as a team-registration is not possible.
I will also, at the correct time point, commit all my cores and GPUs to this race.

Please join the race too!

2012 we were 8 crunchers and came 5th among 84 and we produced 4 646 554 credits
2013 we were 13 crunchers and came 7th among 120 and we produced 4 445 318 credits.

Lets do a better showing this year, OK?

Please remember:
To collect pending credits before race start is not only allowed but welcome! The whole purpose is to do our utmost and work hard for SETI@home and thus provide invaluable support. So don't be afraid to start crunching for SETI@home with all of your available CPUs & GPUs before the race starts.
So: stop submitting all those WUs which have deadline during the race (Aug. 15 - Aug. 29, 2014) and hoard them well and submit after the race has started ...

I am in too.

I knew this race was gearing up and have started getting my folders switched over to seti. I will register shortly...............

Would someone be so kind as to remind me how to save completed WU's.......

Thanks GLeeM. I will probably just crunch on without trying to save wu's. It all sounds so "not fool proof".

The older I get the more fool proof things need to be.................

i'm in.

I can never seem to get more then a couple day's cache of wu's, at least on one
machine, at a time. two years ago i was able to start the race with a 10 day cache
start.

I'm in. There's a limit of 200 tasks total. I tried suspending completed wus but as soon as I connected online to ask for more workunits it sent all the suspended ones. I'm going to upgrade to the newest beta to see if it fixes it. on other projects i've been able to suspend individual wus and pile them up until I wanted to submit them.

Salvorhardin, that would have been a good work around for the download limit, I never tried that. Let us know how you make out with the beta.

I tried boinc 7.4.8 and it didn't work. Even If I suspend the wus as soon as it connects with the seti servers it submits them. The only way I can think of is suspending them before they are completed, but it would be a waste of time having to keep an eye on wu progress. I'll try suspending wus as they reach the upper 90 percentile. If I do 1 or 2 a day then by the time to race starts in mid august i'll have 200 saved up, fortunately the deadlines are about 7 weeks.

I think the unfinished WUs will stay in memory. There might be a setting to have them not stay in memory?

Also, some projects will not request more WUs if any are suspended.

Funny, I was just thinking of running SETI again on my main rig for a bit (might fix the odd issue of SETI not showing up in my BOINC accounts??). Not crunched SETI on my main rig for over 4yrs!

I'm in! (sorry to Rosetta, again lol).

If theirs no straightforward way of caching results then I'm not going to bother, I'll just start crunching a few days before the race. Is that enough?

You might want to start a tad earlier than that because each wu has to be validated and that doesn't always happen immediately. I have actually started some of mine on seti already. There always seems to be some learning curve issues from year to year. But that's just me.

Speaking of learning. I have a question regarding whether or not to ask for AstroPulse units. Can anyone shed some light on the pros and cons...................

A new SETI@home-race? I'll need to remember to register in a few days time...

A quick look through the thread, atleast two things won't work (unless you get a really screwed-up client):
1: If you suspends a task, all work-request for project is blocked by BOINC-client.
2: If you asks for more work, finished work will be reported.

For #2, it is possible to limit to reporting only one result per connection, in your cc_config.xml under the <options> add/edit <max_tasks_reported>1</max_tasks_reported>

So for a couple questions:
Does optimized applications still give a large boost in production, or has SETI@home finally managed to get "stock" optimized applications (except for Astropulse since AFAIK these is still old)?
For GPU's, is it still needed to run multiple wu's per GPU? Does this depend on Nvidia or Amd?
Does SETI@home now support GPU on Intel? If so any special requirements? Is it worth it to use the GPU-part or are you better off just crunching as CPU?
For anyone with smartphone or tablets or whatever it's called, does SETI@home have any support for such toys?

I have done a little research. (emphasis on little)

But it appears the Astropulse units are bigger and take longer to process. Especially the cpu work. I have some that ran over 10 hours.
The gpu units ran in 2 to 4 hours.
Point value per hour of crunching, of course, goes to the gpus.
For example: I had GPU units that returned
171 points/hr
287 points/hr
135 points/hr

Then CPU units:
71 points/hr
57 points/hr
28 points/hr

On the other hand SETI@home v7 units (gpu) return something in the 385 to 450 points /hr

So if all this is correct I do not plan to run any astropulse units unless I run out of the S@H v7 units.

To Rattledaggers question re gpu's; yes to gpu's on intel and in fact the biggest producers in seti seem to me to be members of the GPU Users Group.

Also, I still run Lunatics optimized code so don't know if I can do without.

I had a feeling that SETI had caught up with the optimised apps, however that's an old & rather hazy memory .

Yea I've noticed AP WUs take far longer on my 2nd rig, no idea of credits/hr though, might be able to find out from BOINC account...... nope! No normal WU times in there atm.

I'd meant to ask about AMD GPU times for SETI too, although it's far too hot to run the GPU atm.

Pokey
How long do you reckon's enough, 4 days?

If you are asking when to start crunching, I would say at least a week to ten days ahead. I have already started........... but that is to insure I get any kinks worked out. Mainly because my personal set up takes a while to convert.

Plus the Recent Average Credit calculation takes about a week to come up to speed.

Anyway that's just me.

Yea I'm not worried about RAC, I just want to be sure my rig's giving 100% output & credit for the race .

I have a dumb question.

If I have a WU that whas a deadline during the race, but that will be completed before the race, how do I hold off on submitting it? I think so far they've just been submitted as they've been completed.

I'm using most recent BOINC on Ubuntu 12.04.
