Have hoarded more than 1700 WUs which are being crunched ... and the network activity is shut down ... In 5 days we will se how many of those WUs are done and how many points that may add ...

Petrus, I am not sure that will be enough for five days.
That is only 14 WUs per hour. How many CPU and GPU cores do you have? My slowest computer will do like 10+ WUs per hour.

I think those will be gone in two days!

Yeah, I suspect that ... although my cache is set to 10 days and I have just now 200 or 300 WUs per computer ...
I may dump all done later today, and get new ones ...
And I can not get more. I think it is better to dump all those at the beginning than to dump less ...

I wonder if the following would work for getting more WUs per computer?

I use boinc cc config to specify how many "cpus" I have (32 on a 4670K , and yes it would try to run 32 tasks at once so I then use app config to tell it to only run 4 at a time. No mess no fuss, it just works
<cc_config>
<options>
<skip_cpu_benchmarks>1</skip_cpu_benchmarks>
<ncpus>32</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

<app_config>
<app>
<name>universe</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>
Is it too late to try this?

Some of the GPU Users group crunch more than one wu per GPU, but you need to edit your app_info.xml file to do it. The way I learned was to change the cuda>1<cuda lines to >0.5< to get two per GPU, and you need to edit the cpus from >.04< to >0.5< or >1< to free up a core for each GPU.
I do not know how much it increases your PPD.
I only do this once a year so I don't always remember everything.
If you want more detail go to Seti message boards under number crunching and look for the following thread "AMD & Sapphire R9 290 issues". You might find what you want there. Even better here a link:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75322

They also run more than one per core............. way more than I want to do.

Well, GLeeM, you were almost right ... on most of the computers 24 hours of crunching used approx 40% of all awailable WUs ... so I dumped the finished ones and got new WUs. Now I have again 1800 WUs. I have not managed to get more WUs than 200 or 300/computer, but I'll look. Although I am considering setting up a few virtual computers to get new WUs when all my hoarded are done.
On the other hand, 1800 finished WUs at the beginning of the race is no "chickenshit" either ... should give some 230 000 - 250 000 credits ... and all the WUs that get crunched during the race added to that ...

No, regardless of how many real (or imaginary) CPU-cores a computer has, SETI@home only allows 100 CPU-wu's at once. In additionally you've allowed 100 per "real" GPU but not sure if it's upto a max of 8 GPU's or...

Meaning, the only way to get more than 200 wu's is to have more than 1 GPU in a computer. Running multiple wu's on the same GPU won't work.

Since petrusbroder has 300 wu's on some of his computers, obviously he's got 2 GPU's in these computers, or one of the cards has got 2 separate GPU's on them and is therefore counted as 2.

Using virtual machines is a method to work-around the limitation of only 100 wu's for your CPU, since each virtual machine will be counted as a "computer" and can get 100 wu's. I've no idea how large the extra overhead for running this way will be...

LOL, fowl vs foul

You kinda have to wonder exactly what was meant, sort of like Ziva on NCIS. Petrus is usually better than most English first language people with idioms, this is the first time I've seen him miss. I can barely speak one and he knows how many?

I think he meant "chicken feed" = "an amount (of money) that is too small to be considered important"! Although this just becomes the other in (out?) the end ...

No, no, I meant exactly what I wrote ... including the four letter word. I heard it long time ago in an USA TV show ... don't remember which though: "Hey, this ain't chicken ..." meaning (probably) "this is not just junk or small stuff"

What I missed was the difference between "fowl" (as in chicken) and "foul" as in bad ... and I had a good :biggrin: when understanding ...
I just love languages and puns and double entendres ...

How many? 7. :ninja:

BTW: Yeah, I like Ziva at NCIS a lot ...

Back on topic:

We need more participants to register ... two teams have more than 100 crunchers - and we have only 10.
I know, it is the quality, not the quantity which often matters; but we need more people if we want to compete at the top.

Please PM your buddies, add hardware, borgh computers and asssimilate all you can get!

I think he may be referring to the amount of dung a chicken produces, as opposed to say an elephant. Thus his 'dump' may be somewhere in the middle.

Speaking of hardware...which would be better, a GTX750, R7-250X or an AMD7750.

Looking to spend maybe around $100 for a better card for the video machine.

Just so we know:
I knew exactly what Peter meant. That phrase is actually quite common in my parts and can mean lots of things depending on context. I am glad we got it all sorted out. It usually is not funny when you have to explain a joke but I got a kick out the discussion.

You can learn all sorts of things on American TV.............. few of them worthwhile. :|

I just bought a Sapphire R9 and am finding it hard to deal with. I had to get help getting the drivers to work and found that AMD stuff seems to be a little "different". The Nvidia cards and drivers are not without problems but they seem to me to be slightly easier to deal with and come closer to just working....... AMD folks feel free to chime in............ I got this card for Folding actually, but am using it in the seti challenge. I probably won't know until the dust settles if it was a good decision.

Peter, I think we had 13 TeAm members last year. Those big teams and a lot of the others are dedicated seti teams. We are so diverse that it is hard to get folks to re-focus............ I for one only do seti once a year any more. Still, it wouldn't hurt to have a few more in the mix.

I would throw a few cores in also for old time sake but cant seem to register. Don't get around much anymore but if it registers completed SETI wu's ..cool

"Did you check out the registration help FAQ?"

Yeah I did.

I think the problem is that I'm the original Joe....
It wont recognize that and cant register... oh well

I contribute when I can but don't really pay much attention, have good memories of the old SETI days..when new processors were coming out every couple of months in response to what the OC's were doing and DC was a way of racing your hardware.

Seems, in my opinion DC now is either totally boring or totally absurd (Bitcoin)
