Yea I was wondering whether to just crunch on my 5850 instead of my C2Q, but the results for my GPU have disappeared or are buried deep now! , so anyway I can't work it out now until I crunch some more on the GPU.
Unless someone can give me some HD 5850 times?
On 2nd thoughts I found the GPU times in the last few pages.
My HD 5850 takes 1250-1300s for 90-100 credit WUs.
My C2Q @3.6GHz takes 6900-7900s for 100-120 credit WUs.
So picking a rough middle figure for each!
HD 5850 (stock) 1275s for 95 credits = 13.4s/credit
C2Q @3.6GHz 7400s for 110 credits = 67.3s/credit ÷ 4(cores) =16.8s/credit
Now to find out how power each uses (CPU will be about 180-190w IIRC).
SETI on CPU only, 190-196w (mostly)
SETI on GPU only,
SETI on GPU & 1 CPU core, 210-220w (GPU load 94-97%) (GPU temps peaking at 89C! Think I need to dust it out again )
SETI on both GPU & CPU, 267-278w (GPU load 89-95%).
With the PC idle it's drawing 112-114w, so presumably GPU crunching only would draw ~ 188-198w??
So assuming the GPU only power figure is accurate, it's got ~20% higher output (possibly a little more when it has free use of a CPU core) whilst using about the same power as my CPU! Not bad .
But GPU crunching on SETI does cause significant GUI lag for my rig .
Damn, how do I stop CPU crunching but allow GPU crunching?? (without changing the online preferences to stop d/l CPU WUs).
