SETI Overheating cpu?

Toasted my dually last week, running an ABIT KT7-Raid with 1.1g Tbird.
SETI 24/7 brings cpu temp up to 53 celsius - could this cause instability within my system? Apps, especially IE5.5, seem to crash alot, although I rarely get BSOD'ed. I've had to reinstall Win2k once already, wiping out my c: drive (no data there, just apps), and I really don't want to go thru this again - so, the question remains:
Is 53C too hot for stability on a 1.1g Tbird?

What if ET knows we are trying to look for them and that they have purposedly send out signals that will fry computers that attempt to process the signals?:Q

Most likely they are far adavanced than we are so wouldn't it be possible?

If a CPU frys it's likely a result of improper cooling, overvoltage, power spikes, etc. SETI's not going to harm a CPU if it's functioning properly. That said, SETI does push a CPU to 100% usage so if there is a problem it might bring it out quicker than if the system was idle. In my experience (19+ months and 30+ clients) I've never had a CPU failure as a result of SETI.

I'm not positive about the Athlon but 53C doesn't sound extremely hot. Don't they run a little warmer than the P3's? I know my P3-700@1014 runs SETI 24/7/365 and it is usually in the low 40's with a Golden Orb.

+ I've run SETI on my old Cel 366 @ 550 for over year & still no probs(cpu temps from mid 40's to 50 odd).My PIII 650 @ 820 seems to be doing just fine too ,cpu temp curently at 44C ,case 30C ,room temp 22C.
Cpu temp on my m/bd is measured using the thermal diode inside the cpu

BTW 53C for a T bird does sound a little high ,are you SURE the hsf is fitted OK & working 100%?
