Hello everybody,

I always love a good challenge so I thought this would be a good oppurtunity to hop on the distributed computing bandwagon. Here is what I have brought to the table:

2.8 & 2.6 P4

Hope it helps!

Yes, but it (SetiDriver) should select two automatically.

Ok I should be appearing on the team in a minute. Here comes a couple WU AnandTechs way!.. Got the CLI installed and working fine. It's already processing 2 work units at once (along with my normal seti client that had just recently finished a WU and was about 7% into a new one..just killed it after testing how it affected the processes).

My time per unit is pretty high due to the fact that when I first joined and for a few years I had been running it on nothing but pretty slow PC's. Within the past 2-3 months I've really ramped it up with a huge # of WU though.

On this machine I was doing a WU once every 3.5 hours. Now that I'm doing 2 at once with CLI, how long per WU do you think it will take?

What processor and speed? What RAM speed?

My Dell 3.2GHz P4 with 512Meg PC3200 Dual Channel does 2 WU's in 2:48. (Averages around 17 per day! )

This machine is a 3.06ghz p4 w/ 1gb twinx corsair RAM. The time it's showing on the SETI driver says about 2:50. I don't know if this is for just 1 of the 2 processes running or what. Would be great if it were for both

My stable of PC's currently running SETI are the following:
P4 3.06 - 1gb RAM
P4 2.8c - 1gb RAM
P4 2.8c - 1gb RAM
P4 2.8c - 1gb RAM
P4 2.8c - 1gb RAM

Thinking of adding my amd 2400+ 1gb ram to the mix tonight.
Within the next week or two I could also be adding another 4, P4 2.8c's to the mix as well.

edit: Just re-read what you typed. I guess that does mean it's for both WU's judging by what you said about 2 WU in 2:48.

Does a 100 cache size sound about right? Maybe I should make it larger...

Is there another thread these questions should be going in?

Hey man! If ur using SETI Driver then at the top it says Maximum Processes, there you'll see if it's one or two.
If ur running two processes, completing one wu takes longer because each process uses only 50% of the CPU, but inn the end ur getting a lot more wu done by running two processes!!! believe me!!!

No this post is fine for asking questions! 100 sounds great!!!

ps. Thats one mean :| fleet you've got there!!!

We need all the help possible right now!

Did I just see AgaBooga volunteer for the mentor team?

Welcome new members Special shout out to my peeps Ollie and the mysterious #55

Crazee, if you are accepting more mentors, I'd be glad to join, but it's not something I can spend more than 10 or 15 minutes on each day, I'd be glad to help out if you want

I would adjust the cache so that each PC has at least 2-3 days worth of WU's in case they can't connect to the S@H server. Just figure how many WU's each one does & adjust from there.

Dorito, those 2.8C's will do about 13 a day, so based on that if all the systems are 2.8C's, then 13x5=65

I'd set a total cache of 150, or if it's for each machine, 25 or so

Strange, my 3.06ghz showing about 3 hrs per 2 WU's. I just set up the client on the amd 2400+ and its showing about 1 hr 10 minutes per WU. I will keep monitoring it to see what's up. Maybe I just got a weak WU to work on with that machine.

I have Display Transmit unchecked, yet I'm still seeing the window when it fetches more work units. Anyone know of this happening before?

The times will increase as the work unit is processed , if you have just setup setidriver it will display the tranmit window the first time. but not after the first download of work units is complete..

On the AMD 2400+ it didn't show a single fetch window after the first, however on this machine it's showing them even now. I just upped the cache to 200 and it's giving me each window interrupting my typing.

I had the same problem when starting out. I made sure all the settings were correct, then simply rebooted the program & all was fine.
