Setting login directories in UNIX for webserver docs?

Ok here I go. I am not a server admin at all, but want to learn more about it. Right now, im running an OSX webserver and have Apache, PHP, and MySQL running fine. My problem is setting the home directories for when I login to the server remotly via FTP.

When I put in the IP address of the machine as the host and type in the username and password, it lets me in fine, but takes me to some /Users/teg/ directory by default instead of /Library/WebServer/Documents/teg/ where I will be uploading my site files to.

I don't want to fool around with Apple's GUI any more, so what is the command line to set the login directories for a certain user when i login to my webserver documents? Thanks a bunch!

/Users/teg is your home directory (wierd place to put it in my opinion and its screwed me up a couple of times on my ibook ). If you want to change that you can edit the passwd file using the command "sudo vipw" (dont sudo if you enabled root and are the root user). vipw will put you in a vi (by default, but I think it will use the $EDITOR environment variable if you have it set) editor and open the master.passwd and passwd for you. Just change the home dir field to what you want it to be. But remember, if you make this change you will always go to that directory when you login. You could probably also setup ftp to go to that directory, but I dont know to do that.

If you have openssh for your desktop (http://www.openssh.com for UNIX compatible systems, http://www.networksimplicity.com/openssh/ for windows) you can use scp. "scp file.html teg@osx.myhost.com:/Library/WebServer/Documents/teg/". This will be more secure than ftp, and may be easier.
