Setting up 7200.10 Seagate Drive

I have an Asus P5W and a Seagate 7200.10 320 gb HD. How do i setup NCQ and the perpendicular stuff? I want to have the fastest windows load times as possible as well as game load times. I have an E6600 and 2 Gb of ram. What do i need to get NCQ to work?

Also, on another copmuter i have a Seagate 7200.10 250gb with NCQ. Is it possible to setup perpendicular stuff on an MSI K8N Neo4-f Mobo?? Is it possible to do it without formatting?

Perpendicular recording is not a setting. It has to with the way a drive is manufactured.

NCQ is the same, it will be used if all your hardware/software support it, otherwise it just sits there unused.

one thing, if you want your 7200.10 to utilize full 3.0Gbps bandwidth, you're gonna have to remove that jumper on the drive itself. The drive i have had a really small jumper that i oculdn't get out with my nails, so i had to find a toothpick and remove it, what a pain in the ass..

and, you will ALWAYS want to format a brand new hard drive, always!!!!

NCQ often slows down overall performance in most consumer uses.

1. It will never use 3.0Gbps of bandwidth...it won't even saturate the IDE standard of 100MBps.

2. You HAVE to format a new drive...you don't have a choice

As the other poster stated, NCQ is not a setting. In order to use it, your motherboard must be able to use it. Check the documentationt that came with it to find out. If it does have it, it will automaticaly use it. If it does save any time, I think it will probably be in the milliseconds, not even noticable.

To enable NCQ, get into device manager, then your SATA controller/properties/ channel/ enable command queing. But that only enables the disk. All else must support it, your motherboard, and the application.

I think you'll find NCQ a waste of time until apps are written for it. Also do some disk benchies before and after NCQ. I found it slows transfer, so I have it turned off.
