I'm enclosing my back porch and i'm considering running coax and cat 5 for the TV's and computer should i decide to move a computer out there. Right now i have a Netgear MR314 wireless router hard wired to the other computer in another room. The wireless isn't really that good going through a few walls. The coax and cat 5 presently run through the new room. I would like to put a box in the wall with access so i could hook up different computers/tv's should i want to. I do have a linksys 4 port switch available also.
What kind of cat 5 (crossover or straight) would be necessary to do this? From router to access point, then to the outlets on each wall of the room.
Also, do they make a panel/access box for this purpose and where to get if they do?
Thanks, Jerry

Get some solid cat5E and keystone jacks, and a couple of low voltage jiffy rings like these.
Cut holes in the sheetrock for those rings, and mount with the built-in clamps using a screwdriver.
Pull the wires you want, terminate using the TIA 568B pattern. It is color coded on most keystones.
Get faceplates with the proper number of holes, snap in the keystones, and install with included screws.
Those are straight cables in the wall.
Hook up your devices using regular patch cables, unless you are going computer-to-computer or hooking up a non-auto mdi/mdi-x switch to the router.

Holy cow, those things have a name -- "jiffy rings." I use them all the time around the house, but never determined the name for them besides Mini-JBox-Thing.

Thanks!
