setting up a VPN server using win2k pro?

Okay...searched through some articles on VPN...now I am wondering...it seems like if I wanted to setup a VPN on the Windows platform I would need a server edition of the OS? ie. Windows 2000 Advanced Server,etc...Now Is it possible to set up a VPN server using Windows 2000 Pro. ? Are there any 3rd party software that I can use? Any info is helpful, thx...

Not sure but I'm betting you need Win2k Server. In Win2k Server there is an administrative tool called Routing and Remote Access. That's where you go to set up a VPN server so if you don't have that then you probably can't set it up inside Win2k Pro.

You can host a VPN session on a Windows 2000 Pro system. The limitation placed on Pro is that it can only have 3 incoming connections. If you setup a new network connection using the MS wizard you can enable incoming connections via the internet or other devices (parallel/serial ports, modems, etc.).
