Setting up dual monitors problem

I bought a new monitor to use with my old monitor. My new one goes through DVI on my video card and the old one is going through VGA on my motherboard. DVI and VGA are the only options on the monitors and my second monitor will not get any signal from my motherboard. Is there anyway to activate the video port on my motherboard? If more info is needed let me know. Thanks.

If you have a motherboard that isn't too old, you can go into the BIOS and force it to keep the on board graphics enabled even when a PCI-e graphics card is detected. On AMD the option is called SurroundView, I don't remember what the option is called on Intel chipsets.

Without that option enabled the onboard gets shut off automatically when it detects a video card. If you have 2 outputs on your video card you should just use both of those anyway though.

What is your motherboard?

The ASUS board I have will have a default choice for controlling the on-board VGA. The default setting will tell the onboard VGA to disable itself if a discrete video card is detected. I believe it is auto or something under surround view.

So for your situation, I would have to change the default BIOS setting so that the onboard VGA is always kept on, instead of auto disabling itself.
