Setting up multiple networks

Ok so here is what I need to do. At my business, which is an Optometrist office, I need to set up multiple networks. What I have is wireless internet through out my office running to each of the laptops I have in my exam lanes and pre-testing rooms for my health record software to run on. I also have a retinal camera in a room that transmit the images we take from the computer it is hooked into, to the laptops in the exam rooms via LAN. for awhile we have been running the LAN into one laptop and have a second laptop for the records and wireless but the desk is cluttered and would like to clean it up. I have not been able to figure out how to get a connection on both the wireless and LAN simultaniously though. I can get one or the other if I disable the opposite. SO I can get the wireless if the LAN isn't enabled and the LAN if the wireless isn't enabled but I want to have them both run at the same time. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on all the laptops. If someone could please shed some light and possibly a walkthrough on how this can be accomplished I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Any reason not to connect the 2 networks? If not, then you just ensure the LAN and WAN have a coherent addressing scheme and connect them.

How is the wireless set up? (addressing/devices/gateway, etc)

How is the wired set up? (addressing/devices/gateway, etc)

Well you don't want to connect to the network using both wired and wireless. You want all of the network resources to be available to all machines whether they connect wired or wirelessly.

I don't understand why you can't access the "LAN laptop" from all of the other machines including the wireless ones. Aren't they all on the same subnet and have the same workgroup name? If not, that how you need to set it up. Do all the machines get their IP address from the wireless router?

Freakin' a. Call a damn consultant and let them set it up properly.

Did you let your software vendor set this thing up for you? Medical software vendors for private practice don't know shit about setting up a proper network. I see it all the damn time and it pisses me off.

I have 2 lines coming into the office. One line is for the wireless and one is connected only to the computer that has the camera on it. The camera has to be a wired network due to HIPPA laws so I can't just run them both through the wireless and the rest of my office, aside from the exam rooms are not set up for wired connections. I am trying to get both independent networks to work on the same computer in my exam rooms but I can only get the wired connection to stay connected for about 15 seconds before disconnecting itself. In order to do this I have to deactivate and reactive the wired network but like I said that only stays connected for about 15 seconds. Hope that helps a little bit in what I am trying to do.

Odds are that by hooking the wired network you use for HIPPA items to the wireless, you will be violating your HIPPA requirements.

While I would not recommend you doing this yourself (you really don't want to get sued out of existence do you?)

I would need to know the ip ranges and devices on the wireless network and the wired network. Also don't listen to the people that say it should all be on the same network. What applies to home and tiny business has no place in Doctor's office due to the privacy requirements. You may require a small in network firewall to filter and route access between the private (HIPPA side) and the 'public' (wireless side.)

Anyway more information. Also remember everything I say is opinion and suggestion and not legal / professional advice.

FYI...it is HIPAA, not HIPPA. I think HIPPA may be a female hippo...lol

PS...I sure hope you are not entering medical record info via wireless!!

As reflected from you posts your level of knowledge is not enough for such venture.

It is your business, and in top a medical related one. Sorry man but I consider it as irresponsible dealing with it this way.

Do you approve of people that do eyes exam on their bypassing part of your business and professional knowledge.

It is easy, Log here, scroll down, click on the Snellen chart, choose size and resolution of monitor, and you have online Eye exam.

So, as Drebo said, get professional help, just like you are expecting that people gets yours.
