Setting up Verizon DSL with a westell 6100 Modem and a linksys wifi router WRT54GC

Hi experts in anandtech,
I have an installation problem. So here it is, I have recently purchase Verizon dsl and they sent over some filters for my phone and a Westell 6100 modem. I followed the cd instruction in installing my modem and everything worked when I have the modem directly connected to my ethernet card. I want to put in a wireless router (linksys-WRT54GC) so that my brother don't have ethernet cables running in my room. So what is my next step? I have a cd that came with my router and I followed it and it didn't work. It said something about can't find internet connection. I know the modem works fine cause if i directly connect it to my pc, it works but when I try to add a router, it doesn't. Someone told me to power down my modem and it should work. I will do that when I get home but I don't really know what else to do if it doesn't. Can someone show me the ropes in installing a router?

Just to let you know, routers and such do _not_ require you to put a CD in your PC or install anything. The purpose of those CDs is to spread advertising and possibly spyware depending on the company. This sort of thing really fries my bacon.

I suggest you remove it all if possible, since it might (probably will) mess up what i'm about to tell you to do.

Power up the modem and plug it into the WAN port on the router. Now power up the router and hook your PC up to one of the LAN ports. In 'network connections' on your PC make sure the local area connection is set to recieve an IP address automatically (under TCP/IP properties). Log into the router through the web interface using the address in your router manual and find the internet connection setup bit. You are probably using PPPoE, so set this up with the user/pass from your ISP and click connect, or reboot, or whatever the manual says is nescesary to get it to connect.

Thanks Atheus, I got my network to work now, I was searching the net and found out that my router and modem had the same ip address. I changed the ip of the modem and bridged (DHCP) the internet connection. Now my wired computers (2 comps) are networked. I haven't tried the wireless connection cause the computer that have the wireless card is currently broken (Dell computer won't even turn on...but that's another in another topic itself). So once that computer is working, I'll see if my wireless connection is good.

doesnt the westell 6100 have a GUI? I think I might have the same modem. I had to go into the GUI and set the modem to bridge mode.
