Any reason there would be so many in Colorado today? They all appear to be going from Ft. Collins to Colorado Springs, but there have been at least 6. The first pair were flying fast enough that I heard/felt the vibrations in my house with the windows closed and thought "WTF, tornado?" (no sonic boom though).

sonic boom only occurs when the sound barrier is broken if they are already supersonic you would just hear the rumbling.

I live pretty close to where they were testing the F22s during production, and we did hear sonic booms every once in awhile.

Ah, well then they've all definitely been supersonic, and those first two were low enough that I could see them under the cloud cover.

Are the Rockies playing their season opener today?

I heard flyovers all day from the Reds season opener.

Not exactly...For steady supersonic flight, the boom is described as a carpet boom since it moves with the aircraft as it maintains supersonic speed and altitude.

they weren't supersonic.

All jet aircraft will cause rumblking when they fly over unless they are at great altitude. There are strict regulations on where, when, and why aircraft can go supersonic, and they are pretty limited.

It should be obvious that he's just an armchair general.
