MOrning, my first post I believe.

This is one heck of a forum with this section in Health & Fitness.
So I needed to stop by and say thanks.

Earlier today, I had to see if possible, anyone else had this
very odd severe charlie horse condition.

And sure enough a perfect match, when I came to darkxshade's Post.
always near morning when half awake
and yawning stretch set it off.
The very exact moment, when I had my few attacks.

That first stage, edge of waking, getting into full body stretch, then Wham -
Lower calf, I swear was aimed at with shotgun and blown clear off down to bone.

So severe, I could not move w/o making it worse.
Somehow tricked myself back to sleep to get past the pain.

Finally waking 2-3 hrs later, I'll hobble to the bathroom still very sore.
Taking a full day to recover.

One thing for sure, soon as brain is coming to, I make darn sure to stop
any unconscious stretching attempt.

Luckily, this has not happened again for several months.

Just glad I bumped into that post that's been closed, with good advice to probable causes.
I'm probably guilty of not doing enough water during the day,
Where I do mostly milk & cereal or modified oatmeal for breakfast.
But,
More than enough Coffee throughout the day.

I never do Coke type Soda's of any kind for years.
Club soda is It.

Here's the odd deal.
I had doctor appointment last week, and I mentioned these painful episodes, and She says nothing. Although She looks as a new recruit.
vs 40 yr veteran of dealing with older 60 ish types.

So I leave with the thought, I must be the only one.
Do they think I'm now totally insane? : )

I went in for possible rotator damage, being arm has been making it miserable all winter of 1/2 or more range of movement, very restricted by pain.
Sure enough at restaurant today, I could not get coat back on w/o
major issue.
Getting left arm to go behind body vertical center is nearly impossible.

Well, I wish first post was just a simple Hard Drive & OS upgrade swap,
but that's maybe the next process coming up.
Cheers

Drink more water! I used to have really severe charlie horses as a teenager long distance runner, and it was almost always related to water intake. Dehydration effects this so it makes sense that it might happen more in the morning, because you've drank nothing for however many hours. Some people don't even notice how little water they take in, so pay attention! (Checking your urine color and frequency is a good way to keep track)

Dark rusty color urine bad.
Yellow is more normal.
Light yellow drinking average amounts of water.
Fluorescent urine is from Vitamin B
White/clear urine means you are drinking tons of water and do not need to drink anymore.

Oh my great nemisis. Had more than my fair share of Charlie Horses as a kid (sometimes, as many as one a week). A kick to the crotch is peanuts by comparison. Nothing like that rush of pain coming at you with the force of an infernal avalanche.

To stop an attack, you need to get your foot angled up. This can be achieved by using your bedboard or wall. The calf muscle should release almost immediatly after doing so. If you catch it early enough, you can even avoid the brunt of the pain. It wasn't until the past couple years where I can reliably stop an emminent Charlie Horse before the pain really hits.
