SF-2000 Series Pictures

So, while at Fall SNWUSA 2010, I managed to get some pictures of some of the nextgen SandForce SSD's utilizing Micron and Toshiba NAND. Also was an IOmeter screenshot. Keep in mind, the firmware is not release candidate yet. Most importantly, there will be a version available with the enterprise special sauce.

The SandForce guys (Thad Omura, Matt Ready & one or two others) were super nice and to our suprise, allowed for these pics to be taken. We didn't know it was the first time they had ever demonstrated the drive publicly till we got back to our hotel room and checked their site and saw that they had a press release about the drives being at SNW Fall. The firmware on the two drives was not final. Pics taken by an HTC EVO....the battery died 15 mins later.

When you say that, do you mean a consumer drive? Since I think Anand mentioned that the enterprise drives will actually have higher performance this time around. But if they will allow the "unlocked?" firmware for a special consumer drive too, that's good to hear!

The first question I asked was will they be licensing the enterprise firmware for the consumer line as they did with models such as vertex 2, mushkin deluxe or g skill pro and was told most definitely. They said the main differences were going to be the reserved space and certain hardware "features." I told them I can't wait for Anand to get his hands on one, but we're going to have to wait for the firmware to be tuned before that happens.

They are all so shaken by the news and performance that they keep missing the Reply button. That, or just waiting for Anand to do another article haha. I'm keen to see the results from one of these drives in the AnandTech Storage Benchmark to get a better idea of real world performance.

The lack of reply is possibly because there is nothing new.

It is short of 60K IOPS, as anand has already mentioned in his preview. But at least now we got the number it is already running 57K IOPS in beta status. So it is not far off.

The broad is running at 220MB/s? Due to limitation of SATA II?

Maximum Latency went DOWN substantially from 4x - 7xms down to 11ms.
However this is still much higher then Intel's 3.5ms.

CPU utilization seems to be on the high side depending on their Machines CPU.

So far all seems good. I hope they could improve more with their Maximum Latency down to single digit.
