two questions:

1. does anyone find the "confirmation screen" kinda weird? there is absolutely nothing on it with any unique identifiable numbers or letters or barcode or any combination

2. are we sure that we can't bring a laptop? is there a Q&A page or a contact phone number or email that we can inquire about this?

I just received this in the email. Looks like laptops are OK.

Due to the overwhelming response, we are completely filled to capacity. As such, we ask that only folks that are registered attend and please only bring one machine (either desktop or laptop). We fear that too many machines will blow the power. J

It was okay.

You get a hat. and you can keep the RC2 disc. I was hoping for something better. Instructions includes a vista ultimate key. only thing I don't know is if its tied to your name. They lost mine and I would be emailed with one later on.

some people had issues others did not. I didn't.

interestingly enough I'd expected them to talk a bit but they didn't.

This is for the person who PM me, but for some reason does not allow PM themselves.

And also for others hoping to go under someone elses name.

When I arrived at the Mountain View campus. I can not speak for the event at foothill college.

the receptionist gives you form to fill out your info and give you a name tag.

when you get upstairs they have a huge stack of instruction packets with name of registered people and a key for vista ultimate. You tell them your name and they'll look for packet with your name. No ID is checked.

You are also required to fill out a release form, something along the lines of letting them use your feedback. they also ask if they can contact you. On this form you also provide again your name, addy, tel. phone and email. They however do not check your email against anything.

In my case because they lost/forgot to print out my instruction, I was given one without key and the girl just verified my email when I turned in my packet so that when she gets back(to her office) she can email me with a key. She did verify that I was registered for the 9am session when they couldn't find my packet. But again No ID was asked for.

I do not know if they will obtain your mailing address from the release form or email you in the coming months to verify address.

In my mind I think they would probably email you and want verification in case someone moved.

Thanks herkulease, that was me... didn't realize my PMs were turned off. I do recall sending in my name and phonenumber in the initial email i sent them to register. I was wondering how they'd organize this since there seems to be no formality in it.

Just for further clarification, we were told we'd get a full copy of Vista Ultimate come release time, this is still the case isn't it?

That's what they told me. you'll get it come out January/Feb. surprising that the vista team didn't wasn't even sure when it is release.

Nope. Some people behind me had system that didn't even meet the specs they requested you have before you signed up. the MS just went with it and had the guy write down problems and other thigns he ran into with it.

Just came back from the one in Mt View Sunday Oct. 8 1-4pm, it was a really relaxed atmosphere. I didn't really ask if any were members of this board (I was the asian guy with long hair). The upgrade on my HP notebook went fairly smooth... took less than 2 hours. The guy i had been sitting next to was there for over 5 hours (9am-) since his notebook refused to cooperate with him.

After installing they do copy your log files from your computer onto a portable 2.5 HD. Filled out a survey and stepped out. Got a Vista cap for all my trouble, and was given the RC2 disk. Lots of people were still there after i left.

They did cross-reference my name with their database, and found it. From what i was told, come Jan/Feb whenever Vista is released, my copy will come in the mail based on the address i put down on the sign up sheet i filled out before i did my upgrade. Let's hope my copy comes without a hitch...
