wow its available where i live in downtwon sf. i currently have slow 6mb dsl from att for 45 a month for dsl alone. this is cheaper and many times faster. but i would worry about reliability. att has been pretty good the last few years at least with almost no downtime and i wouldnt want to trade that for a lower price or faster speed. ive never heard of this company. does anyone have it and can you comment on these issues

Our Santa Rosa location uses their Flexlink Ethernet 10Mbps service. It has never gone down and when their device has firmware upgrades they will come to our office and do it onsite after hours for free.

Damn! Too bad there is no service in Mill Valley.. bummer

I believe Mill Valley is part of the 2011 build schedule. We have got most of the Bay Area COs covered today, but a number of locations were left out during this second big wave of construction over the last year or so. Sonoma and Napa were well covered, as was the peninsula, South and East Bay area, but Marin has quite a few holes right now.

Register interest and we'll let you know when we get there!

That is a score! ADSL2+ actually can do up to 24Mbps, though we "only" market it as 20Mbps just because only folks really silly close have hope of seeing rates that high.

Let us know how yours does!

add plus slaes tax and fees in subject. Total price will be around $53

This varies by city - the average is actually $9.06 in taxes and fees on top of the $39.95 service price. You can find an estimate for your city here:

http://www.sonic.net/solutions/home/internet/fusion/taxes_fees/#example

They do vary though - I know that in January the FCC is raising the FUSF, which will increase everyone's expense for that by about $0.30. We updates the estimates that we publish as changes like this occur, so everyone has clear disclosure of what to expect! (Yah, every carrier does that, right? =)

Sonic.net's CEO has always answered personal e-mails from himself.

Yup - I participate on Usenet in ba.internet, on DSLReports, and on Twitter. Found this thread while searching for the one that is on Slickdeals.

Thanks for the original post and link to Slickdeals. We're seeing TONS of traffic and signups from people reading about us there, and the team here is really excited about the response to this new product.

Until a about a week ago, the service was $50/mo, we sold at that price for about six months. This gave us a good base of about 4,000 customers in the Bay Area, allowing us to slowly work the kinks out of our ordering tools, provisioning process and to add staff.

Then we dropped the rate to $39.95, where we really wanted it to be, and of course have lowered the rate for all the people who purchased it at $50. That comes out of the blue for them, and it's something I'm pretty proud of. And, before we included phone, we sold this product as data only for $55; those folks were dropped to $50 and offered phone during the earlier price reduction. It's an awesome trend that has won us some really fanatically happy customers.

sonic.net is not new check out their ratings http://www.dslreports.com/comments/896. Plus they mostly resell some At&t dsl.

I've been a customer of theirs (living in the same or adjacent city as their headquarters, known some of their employee's through people, and I can certainly say they set the bar for an ISP. I would have Sonic anytime at all possible. Although, one thing I wasn't happy about was that when they changed to a no contract deal, I completed my contract, but they wouldn't give me the new $5 lower rate. Their service is the best though, and that is my only complaint. They have tech support that is actually helpful.

But, NO, they don't resell AT&T DSL, they are forced to use AT&T phone lines. The phone line connects to a different DNS head end. But, last I heard Sonic had managed to get their own phone lines or something (I think that is what Fusion is using).

They were also recently selected by Google to support and install a project relating to super-high-speed broadband (fiber) in homes near Standford.

Oh my bad about the AT&T DSL resell.

That Stanford project is amazing, I wish I could get gigabit speeds.

I was a happy customer of sonic.net for several years when I lived in Emeryville. Currently using cable because of my location, but would like to throw in my recommendation for them. Hold times were minimal any time I needed to call them (a rarity in itself), and their reps were always courteous.

thanks man. I just signed the escrow papers for my new condo downtown SF and hope to move in sometime next week with internet service sometime in January. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to being a customer. AT&T was the only company that was able to provide service from an infrastructure perspective (something about no coaxial cables going from the main junction to the units, only copper telephone wire), but I just received an e-mail today saying they service the building.

edit: if all else fails, I can just run an ethernet cable from my window to the CO

Deal just became a lot hotter for me today (net neutrality decision that came down today, for those of you not paying attention). Screw you Comcast, I'm not letting you decide what I should be using the internet for.

I'll be switching to Sonic, an ISP that's been around my neighborhood since I first started shopping for ISPs back in the early 90s.

Fusion Broadband + Phone includes traditional land line phone service. This means it works during a power outage, doesn't use your Internet connection, supports full enhanced 911, etc.

Not available for me either, in Hayward. Been wanting to get rid of Comcast, not because it's a bad product, but the whole evil corporation thing.

Pretty impressive seeing Dane Jasper reply here in this thread.

How do I invest in his company.

I just got off the phone with tech support with sonic.net. for help upgrading the firmware on the modem. I am located about 10,500 feet from the CO. My download speeds are almost 4 times faster than ATT! I am a happy camper.

I give Sonic two thumbs up!

I would like to invest in Sonic, too!
