Yea baby, we signed the best closer on the market. If we had him last year we would have won the west by almost double digits. Next year is looking good for us, eat a fatty Dodger fans.

Umm..you might want to stop hallucinating.
Isn't he the same guy the yankees traded a couple of seasons ago after they traded for him mid season, because he couldn't hack it and the sox pounded him? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy?

don't get too excited. This guy is the worst pressure situation performer ever, and being a Braves fan i've seen my fair share of chokes.

Yeah, that'd be him.
If he plays like he did last year, he'll be good, but he doesn't seem to be able to hack it in pressure situations. There's no guarantee this guy will be as good next year.

He was sweet last season, only 4 blown saves.
He didn't take too well to pressure when he was in NY despite the good numbers he usually put up. And he is liable to use some bush league tactics (exp. nail a batter in the back after giving up a big bomb, I still remember him pounding Tino in the back).

I know he has that reputation, but look at his career stats. Point me to a bad year other than his 2nd season:
Giants now own Dodgers

Sweet, as long as he doesn't go for their head. We blew 28 saves last year, tied for 3rd most in the majors. With Benitez we would have that number reduced by at least 10.

He hasn't really had any BAD years other than the one you pointed out, but over his career you can see he's not as dominant as he was last year. A good pick up for the Giants, I just don't think he's a GREAT closer.

Benitez is a good closer, despite some postseason mess ups. However, he also had some good saves during more stressful times as well. Mets fans are just morons in their hatred towards Benitez. He is a great closer. However, $7 million/year for Benitez? Man, Sabean is a pretty bad GM.

Benitez is a lot better than Herges and Hermanson!!

the giants wasted more money signing a closer instead of keeping a cheaper JOE NATHAN or TIM WORREL in the previous offseason.
smart.

Yeah, we're all aware of the Joe Nathan deal. I thought it was stupid the second they announced it. But, it's one of the few mistakes Sabean has made and he's correcting it by getting Benitez.

Anyways, Sabean is one of the best GM's in baseball, so I'll trust his decision making.
