Little wonder there have been no WHQL drivers that officially expose HDR+AA..

This coming from the guy that advocates nVidia beta drivers.

Regardless, your comment is false given ATi releases monthly WHQL drivers. Everyone else seems to know that except you. Why do you think that is?

They do indeed, *HOWEVER*, those WHQL'd drivers don't support HDR + AA properly - if HDR+AA was as orthagonal as ATi and the fanatics claim it is, the chuck patch would be totally unnecessary...

Yes they do. Implement an application that renders to a floating point framebuffer and requests AA properly and you'll get both, like Serious Sam 2 and Far Cry.

It is orthogonal which is why the Chuck patch is not only possible but it works. On nVidia it isn't - you get one or the other - which is why there is no Chuck patch for nVidia.

The Chuck patch is necessary because Oblivion doesn't request HDR + AA properly so the driver forces it instead.

Just like it's necessary for me to force AF and AA in GLQuake with my 7900 GTX driver - the game doesn't support it so I force it through the driver.

But what the game does or doesn't support has no bearing on what the card supports, just like HDR combined with AA on ATi.

As far as I remember, Rollo never wished anyone's death. And unlike Gstanfor here, was a pretty smart guy. Gstanfor is something different. A malignant version.

Hubris is rampant on the boards, and pretty much the net in general, and civilization as a whole for that matter.

As a long term customer of ATI I've come to dislike them intensely, though I recognize I'd prolly feel the same about NVidia if I bought nothing but them for the past 7 years. Still, wouldn't want anyone hurt in the matter.

First I see that you are a new member to anandtech, welcome! While we all get into arguments here and some of them can last quite awhile, it is helpfull to remember that if you go around the forum following someone and posting flames after everything they say then people will most likely think you are insane. Just thought I might throw some good advice to a new member before they decide that all they should do on anandtech is flame people.

I will agree that is a good deal of hypocrisy. However, it doesn't change the fact that Gstanfor said it and it was wrong. I find the statement very distastefull. Just because one person is being a big hypocrite doesn't mean that the accused party is innocent.
