SGS3, GNex, or Razr MAXX as upgrade before June 28th?

I'm on VZW and have a Bionic. I've got a NE2 credit and want to get one last upgrade through VZW before they make me start paying full price (or buying used) for new phones to keep my unlimited data. So, it looks like I have 3 options:
Razr MAXX- basically what I have now just thinner. Locked boot loader pisses me off but can still do custom ROMs. Just not as nice to deal with.
GNex- great phone to mod with and play with other ROMs on. Unlocked boot loader. Smaller screen though (and IIRC not as good as the MAXX I could be wrong)
SGS3- looks to be the best, but not released yet and the SGS line has GPS lock issues in the past. Unlocked bootloader and good hardware specs. Not so sure on the screen though.

So what would you do if you're moving from the Bionic to something this month AT D&G forum?

Razr MAXX and GNex are both 2011 phones. SGS3 is a 2012 phone.

Actually, let me correct that. The Razr Maxx and Galaxy Nexus have a CPU from 2011 and a GPU from 2010. Same PowerVR SGX 540 that came with the original Galaxy S. Not that it's a bad GPU; it was awesome when it came out, and I'm sure if would serve you well. But if you're trying to go as long as possible with this upgrade (since it will presumably be your last subsidized phone), you should get the SGS3 because it's the best and most future-proof phone of them all. Another concern is that while the Razr Maxx has an awesome battery, it's non-replaceable, so if you try to keep it for 2-3 years it might start to wear down and you can't just get a new one.

In terms of screen quality GS3>GNex>Maxx. The Gnex and GS3 both have 720p Super AMOLED screens however the one in the GS3 is supposed to be higher quality and is slightly larger. The Maxx has the smallest and lowest resolution screen of all of these devices.

The Galaxy S2 didn't suffer from any GPS lock issues so there is no reason to assume the S3 would.

Currently on a Droid X. The wifey and I are both upgrading to the SGS3 - seems to be the latest and greatest.

I'm currently on a Razr, not the maxx but the plain droid razr, and just put in a pre order for the SGS3. Solid Screen, 2GB of RAM and the fact that it comes with ICS (4.0) made the decision for me.

But will the SGS3 have removeable battery?

And will it even have enough battery (removeable or not) to last more than a few hours?

And any idea EXACTLY when the SGS3 will come available or is this gonna be another VZW, "If I'm not back in 5 minutes..........just wait longer!" scenario?

Im thinking the same thing but from what i can tell you wont be able to keep unlimited data with a galaxy s3. According to some CSRs you can preorder now but when it comes time to activate after the 28th itll force you to 2GBs.

The only reason to go GNex over SGS3 is that it's pure Android ICS. Everything else, the SGS3 is going to be an upgrade. Micro SD slot, better screen, bigger battery, more features, etc.

Yes, the SGS3 has a removeable battery.

And yes, it will last more than a few hours - in fact, the SGS3 was one of the best tested phones in terms of battery life out of all the Android phones:

(Bear in mind that's the international version with the quad core)

It's a beast of a phone

And what about Droid Razr HD???

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that a can of worms I shouldn't open?

And, if anybody *really, truly* knows, I'd love to hear if there's an actual firm date for delivery of SGS 3's or if it's just a guess at this point. A phone in the hand is worth 2 phones in the bush.

TIA

The Razr HD won't be out before the 28th. This thread is specifically looking for best phone to upgrade to while keeping unlimited and using my upgrade NE2 credit.

Indeed!

I see what you're saying about the 28th though. It's "unlimited-data" sensitive.

I still think those dates are about as solid as a joke.

My wife's birthday is on the 20th. I'd love to tell her that her phone is coming in a 19 window.........well.........probably..........maybe............should be. No worries.

I agree, but since they are taking orders for it already with a "no later than July 9th" date... I'd say it's a safe bet that you'll get it within the next month.

Razr hd might be interesting; it will basically be a razr with new soc (probably same chip as sgiii; but maybe newer omap rather than s4; and 720p screen; but precise specs are still unknown). While I voted sg3; I still want to see if it has decent reception before my actual decision. I have a razr now and kind of hate the battery life (used 50% while in the post office for an hour); not willing ot spend full price on the max; also kind of hate the locked boot loader which is likely an advantage for hte sg3.

Which has been confirmed and will suck bad.

Thank god I locked down my unlimited for another 2 years.

After that I'm not going to upgrade until this gnex blows up.

I SHALL NOT GIVE UP ON MY UNLIMITED INTERNET!
I think I'll end up turning it into a tethering machine.

Battery life of the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III is close enough to the Droid Razr MAXX.
The Razr MAXX now only excels its competitors by miles in talk time.

Razr Maxx is a 2011 phone.
Galaxy Nexus is a 2011 phone.
Galaxy S III is a 2012 phone.

Go with the 2012 phone.
