EB says it pre-releases on 5/29, whatever that means. haven't heard much about it.

I have a few shadowrun RPG books from back in HS and I love the cyberpunk genre.
So how does this game look and is it going to be released at the end of this month/beginning of next?

Wahoyaho:
It's based upon the same universe, an old Tabletop RPG game.

I saw the price to be $50 or $60, which takes shadowrun out of the wantable pile for me. Even though i could never even run the game as I'm lacking in windows vista and don't plan on upgrading for a while longer.

No, nothing, absolutely nothing. The SNES game was an amazing RPG. This is just a multiplayer FPS (think Unreal Tournament). Plus, from what I've read, they've taken some liberties with the source material, so even though they are both from the same tabletop origin, the end results are vastly different.

Yeah it was and I am disappointed the PC game won't be like it.

The genesis version had the most RPG elements and was the closest to the books.
Only problem was the graphics and sound were worse than the SNES version.

It's shadowrun in name only.

I can't remember the game site (IGN, or gamespot) did a preview of the 360 vs PC, and the 360 team won most of the matches. They described the aim as a circle and your shots will hit somewhere inside the circle (kinda like a shotgun).

I adore the Shadowrun franchise/universe. The fact that some completely average-looking shooter gets to bear the Shadowrun name makes me sad. Had high hopes for a new legitimate game for many years now since the SNES/Genesis games.

It been mentioned other places also. The 360 players get to cheat. The 360 gets an autoaim cheat, while the PC player get accuracy blowout and recoil. If you get the PC version expect to be owned by the average eight year old with a 360.

Argh. I freaking LOVED the SNES and Genesis Shadowrun games. They were definitely some of the best games I have ever played. Some company needs to do this series justice and make another RPG-type. Those games were just too freakin good to ignore, I don't care if they remake them with better graphics, I'd still buy it!

Use your cybernetic eye to spot your enemy through walls

wtf??? this is ridiculous. why do they need to add this to the game? legal wallhacks...great.

it appears to be vista only so i guess i don't really have to worry about it for awhile.

You could get thermographic vision with a cybernetic eye, and only take a minimal essence cost. Of course, essence points become very precious when you start dealing with Wired Reflexes Lvl. 3 ...

I've been trying to pick this up, nobody's received it so far as I can tell in San Diego (Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys, Gamestop).

I was accepted into the beta for Shadowrun on the XBox 360. FWIW, it was fun. I remember playing Shadowrun when I was a kid. It really is in name only, as they have only used some of the terminology and abilities (smartlinks, etc.)

As for what I played, it was fun online. The single player experience was, well, crap. You chose your race, which had different attributes, then started with very little money for weapons, magic, and tech. As the game rounds progressed, you'd gain more money to use for upgrades, everything from smoke form to heightened reflexes. I usually went with a "street samurai" kind of build with an elf, or a straight-up mini-gun build with a troll.

IGN has been saying that the game will not start at all on their test rig. Although they said before that they got it to start, but they couldn't connect to Windows Live.

Shadowrun for the PC is only $38 at Wal-Mart this week it seems (I saw it for that price there yesterday (Sunday)). Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $40 for an online only game like that.

I played the 360 Beta. It was fun for a while, but it was such a bite off of Counterstrike, it wasn't even funny. You get money to buy magic and tech at the beginning of each round, you do your thing... you start a new round and buy more with more money. repeat. Its not terrible, and I would have bought it if it wasnt for the $60 360 pricetag.... MP only means $40 or no buy for me.

Finally saw the game in stock this weekend, was going to pick one up and then found out you need to pay for multiplayer? What?

The original setup for Halo 2 Vista was going to be that you could play against other PC users for free (Live Silver), but had to buy into the Gold program to play against 360 users as well. Shadowrun doesn't have that choice, it's Gold or no online.

Am I horribly misinformed or is this accurate? I'm not paying any extra to play online. I've always avoided those types of games and I'm not selling my soul just to look through walls without getting kicked for hacking.

From what I've heard multiple times, you're wrong. You only need an Xbox Live Gold account to play against 360 players. And you can use the one you have for your 360, if you already have it.

If not, playing against people on the PC is free (thank god).
