Hey Guys,

So I am in the market for a new car and I think Range Rovers are pretty cool. Well I cant really afford anything over $15,000 - $20,000 and that puts me at a 2002ish Rover with 40-60k miles on it.

Well on Craigslist, I saw this post for a 2004 rover for $9000. This is a steal guys, but also I could get taken for a ride too. Here is the craigslist posting:

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/437374192.html

Anyways, so I e-mail him and here was the first conversation:

ME:

hi,

i am interested in your land rover. can you give me more information on it as well as a number to reach you at? i am located in irvine and can pay cash.

Thanks,
laxplayer39

HIM:

Hi there,

If you are interested in my car you should know that it has never been wrecked or damaged,
the car is in excellent condition. All the manuals, clear title and the original documentation come along with the car. The total price that I 'm asking for the car including shipping and insurance fees will be
$9,000.00. I am right now located in Glasgow, Scotland with my work for some time but we can work this out since the car is located in California. Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only through Secure Trading.
If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address , phone number and I will open a case at Secure Trading and they will contact you with all the information about our deal.

Thank you and if you need more info's about the car feel free to contact me.

Regards,

-----------------
ME #2:

where in california is this vehicle? i would like to check it out for a test drive if possible. it would be hard for me to send $9000 cash to someone before even getting a chance to look at the vehicle. do you have a vin #?

im really interested and if we can work out the details then both of us will have a really good time completeting this deal.

thanks,

HIM #2

Hello again,

The total price for this car is $9.000.00 shipping included. Here are the transaction steps:
1- You will send me your full name, shipping address and phone#.
2- You will be contacted by Secure Trading with all the details about the transaction.
3-You will make a deposit of 30% in to an Secure Trading agent name.
4-I will send you the car for inspection along with all the documents (title, a bill of sale).
5-If you want to keep the car, you will pay me the remaining balance. If you don't want to keep it, you will send it back to me and i will support the shipping back fees.
I will wait your full name and shipping address so i can open a case with Secure Trading regarding this deal.

Regards Michael,

P.S.The car is at the company shipping in Los Angeles CA ready for delivery to buyer home address, so you cannot see, but if you make the deposit i will start the shipping and you will have 10 days to see inspect and test drive.
VIN# salme11484a143801.Pls send again your full name and address.

Let me know what intentions you have.

----

So I dont have carfax, IF ANYONE DOES PLEASE RUN ThIS VIN AND I WILL PAYPAL YOU, and it at least matches the same description.

Any thoughts on how to proceed? It could be easy to just blow it off as a scam but i mean if theres a chance to get this vehicle for 9000, man, that would be a gift.

i dont want to risk anythign so any advice on how to proceed in the smartest possible way would be much much appreciated.

thanks guys,
lax

SCAM, its a car you cant "see" supposed from scotland that ended up in a Cali port?

So many things wrong with this.
If a deal sounds too good to be true, thats because it is
"Secure Trading doesnt sound like a reputable company, probably a front to take your $$
You can physically see the car despite it's "already in Cali"
Why would someone in Scotland(Atlantic ocean) ship to California rather than New York?

If you really want to waste your time, ask if you can pursue through a reputable escrow service like the Ebay recommended Escrow.com. 100% chance he says no.

I mean you have to pay $2700 to "see and drive" the car. Classic strategy to take you $2700 and disappear.

If you can't see the car (let alone drive it) before you buy just walk away.

You could but it'd be a waste of time because it'd either be a forged title or copy or it doesn't exist and he'll have a bevy of excuses for that. What are you looking at land rovers for btw? 2004 Land Rovers were the least reliable cars in America by FAR. I'm talking about 2nd to last place + 50% more problems on top of that.

Great image and prestige, shitty, shitty (and I mean incredibly) cars.

Go through escrow.com, put you $9k in there and wait for delivery. How it works is when it's delivered you tel lthe escrow to release the funds to the guy and if it doesn't happen you get the funds back.

i really wish this guy was here and it was a much more legit sounding but i guess u cant win them all

Just because the vin matches the description doesnt mean anything, go to ebay and you'll see that every car for sale has its vin posted. He could of gotten the vin from there, found some pics that match the color description associated with the vin and voila.

See people, even when you tell others its a scam, they still want to part with their money. This is why we get more and more spam everyday because it works for people like this.

If you can't see this is a scam then yea go ahead and give them your money.
