As I was walking to the grocery I heard a car in the loading area doing a crank, no start. It would've taken me 2 seconds to ask the guy if he needed a jump, and maybe 5 minutes to go get my car (opposite side of the parking lot) and bring it back.

Since I only wanted to pick up a few items, I figured I'd get them first and then come back out to ask him if he needed a jump. However, when I got back outside the car was there, but he was not in it. I'm not sure where he went...hopefully he found someone to help him (assuming he needed it).

I've realized that while I tell myself I would help others, it only takes the slightest inconvenience to give me an excuse to look the other way. :\

I understand this isn't really significant...just doing a little self-reflection.

I think I might have some good karma to burn. A week ago a tree branch fell on the front of my car. Can this count against that?

If it was cranking, then why would he need a jump?

It would be pretty rare for a jump to start a car that was cranking and wouldn't start. Not an impossible circumstance, but if I heard a car cranking and not starting, I would not think it needed a jump. I would think no fuel or no spark.

Slow crank would indicate need for jump.

If this thread gets enough posts about the mechanics of cars rather than the OP's guilt over not helping that man steal a car, the we can have it moved to The Garage.
