Hi guys,

I'd like to share a network connection after a Windows 7 computer. It would be:
Wall -> ethernet -> Main Computer -> ethernet -> Wireless Router -> Other Devices
Unless anyone has any suggestions, it absolutely has to be this way due to having to install software on my main computer in order to connect to the internet, and I haven't found a way around this. So my questions are:

1. Is this doable? From what I'm reading, I think it is, but I want to be sure before I go out and spend some money on a ethernet card since my motherboard only has 1.

2. How do I set it up, and is there any component I'm missing? Is it as simple as enabling Internet Connection Sharing in Network Connections, selecting the second ethernet and plugging that into the wireless router?

3. Is there a difference (performance, reliability) as to whether I have the computer route (Main ethernet into router's LAN) or the router route (Main ethernet into the router's WAN)?

Thanks!

What software do you need for the Internet connection? Or, put another way, who is your ISP? Most home routers are capable of logging in to standard ISP connections.

Yes, you can use Internet Connection Sharing to do what you are describing, but if you actually have a wireless router it shouldn't be necessary.

I'm at a University and they have every client install Cisco NAC agent, and they frown on using routers, so much so that they force you to use the router as an AP. I'd like to have a simple and easy connection to the internet with my other devices (laptop, phone, ipad, etc) without installing or I can't install the Cisco agent.

If your university tells you this, then it's probably best to abide by the policies. Most ICT departments frown on (and rightly so) on people adding wireless routers to their networks. It makes things really screwed up, from a network admin's standpoint at the least.

If your router is simply an access point. this should be enough to connect all wifi devices.
