Only need 10Mb connection and have 2 phones lines to run to new room. Can I use single Cat5 cable to cover all? How about Cable TV - could it use a TP as well? Thanks

There are two unused pairs for 10/100mbit connections. Don't get the phone lines crossed up with the NIC connection, it will toast the NIC.

Is the cat5 already in place, or will you be installing it? If you have yet to install it, I think your best bet would be to run 2(or more).

It is like running a Ferrari with a Regular Grade Gas. :disgust:

Would the Ferrari run?

Yes, with knocking and pinging.

Would the Ferrari run for long time? :music:

Nah, the engine eventually will die.

I thought there was a huge issue with running network over a few pairs and the phone with 100VAC over the other two, someone help out here? Several threads on this have come around...

The ring voltage to a phone (even the cute little electronic ones) is 105 VAC @ 20 Hz.

Other than that, there is -48VDC always on the line (tip & ring). Well, not always; it dips periodically to signal off hook & such.

Phone & network on one cable is not a good idea. Doable, but still a bad idea.

FYI, the ringer voltage is 90-100 VAC at 20HZ for POTS. Even the 48VDC will zap most NICs, and that's there all the time.

Well, if I connect the phone wires to the NIC, then I deserve a fried NIC. There are 4 twisted pairs and I want to use 2 for network and other 2 for phone. As long as I don't mix them up, will there be interference or crosstalk?

There is potential crosstalk, though it's been done by many corporations successfully. I just run another wire, but then I don't go looking for trouble.
