Thanks

i don't know if you can password protect a specific folder... but i you can require the computer to be logged on... and or put a screen saver password...on that computer..

that way, anytime they are away for more then a few minutes they have to input the password again....

not the exact solution you were looking for but it might work in the meantime... that is until somebody tells you the real answer.

yes but permissions don't pervent someone from using somebody else's computer to access infomation... ala somebody logs in... then dickweed comes along and goes galavanting around in folders you let someone have access to....

at least thats the impression is was under...

otherwise... i would have just said that

What I want to do is share my mp3s so I can listen to them at work. When I was running windows 98, i just shared it and set the password. I just updated to 2000, and when i tried to access my computer, it asked for password, which I had not set on my machine. But i think I get what you guys are saying. If I create a user account with the same name as my work machine, and then set the password, I should be able to get on. I am understanding this right?

Same name you use to log into your machine at work, not necessarily the same password at home. It will ask for the password you set at home when youre at work.

You have to set a password for the 2000 PC. Even if the computer you are using to access it has no password, make one on the account you created on Windows 2000.

When it asks you for a password, you should just put in the password (shouldn't have to put in the user name if it's the same) and then you can share. I had quite a problem for a while but it all works great now.
