<<BTW, single tuner PIP is WORTHLESS. You will never use it.>>
Why? Any 4-head VCR has a decent tuner. I s'pose if you buy 30+" TV you're not using it with cheap 2-head VCR w/o tuner, right?

Here's what I'm talking about: cable outlet->2-way splitter; one output of splitter goes to TV, another to VCR RF in. VCR composite output goes to TV. That's it.

On the other hand, if you think that ANY PIP is WORTHLESS... But that's totally different.

I'm bothered by the no Component Video Inputs. What exactly does that mean? does it only accept one input device adn it has to be S-Video? will my Composite Video VCR work with this?

thanks for the info robstv. at first, I was like..okay this is just another person with another opinion until you got to the Toshiba tv part. My parents' 8 year old Toshiba 32" now has a vertical problem where we get snowy picture on the told half and then in the middle is a 5 centimeter horizontal line that used to be the bottom half. know how much it would cost to repair?

Your composite VCR will work just fine. Component inputs are a step up in quality from S-Video, the 1 video signal is actually broken down into 3 RCA style(composite) cables. Component is commonly found on many DVD players and looks MUCH better than S-Video as long as it is implemented well in the hardware.

I have a 32" SHARP TV (32K-X1000) that I have had now for about three years and I have never had a single problem. I must say that I LOVE this TV set. I use a Toshiba DVD player via component inputs and it looks incredible. I also use a Laser Disc via S-video, Cable via coax, satellite via S-video, and VHS VCR via composite. All sources display very well on this TV.

I highly recommend SHARP for price/performance.

This deal requires you to have a 10% off valued customer coupon and not everyone has that (including me). Are the 10% coupons just now arriving in the mail?

Most people were getting the coupons late last week.

I would like to stand up to PIP. When I'm playing RPG games like FFIX or Chrono Cross, I watch TV and level up at the same time.. actually the most significant time I remember is in FF7 when fighting emerald and ruby weapons where I used mime and nights of the round.. and it just takes like 2 mins for each spell.. nutz! but yeah.. it's useful in very rare occasions...

<< Sharp TV's are built very well, and the company stands behind what they sell 110%.
Rca/Ge/Proscan are pure garbage. We fix more of them than all other sets combined!
Next in the garbage pile is Zenith. Forget about all the no name sets.
Other set's that fail often, but are usually recommended are Toshiba and Sanyo.
Sanyo's barely sqeek by from getting in the Garbage pile. Tuner problems that are $$.
Toshiba's are known for vertical and regulator troubles, but not expensive to repair.
Phillips/Magy used to be on the buy list, but have fallen off to near rock bottom. Avoid!

By far the #1 set that we tech's recommend for low price, and great quality is:

SHARP
>>

My experiences are that Sharp's pretty good, I have had one for 5-6 years or so and it's just startin to break...but the thing is it's been thrashed, carried all across the house almost everyday, etc... and it was pretty cheap to start with. But I noticed you didn't mention Sony...I think Sony's are pretty good, I'd be interested in your *professional* opinion...

RobsTV,
Thanks for the info, it's nice to hear from someone who's actually in the business, should help in making a purchase decision.

I bought this tv a couple months ago. It's a solid TV. Picture and sound quality are excellent. I bought it at about 450 with the no finance charges til next summer.

PIP is pretty useless. Any secondary source plugged into one of the Line inputs will work in the PIP but only way to get two different channels at the same time is when the sources are different. i.e. main screen is from antenna on Coax connector and PIP is the VCR on Line2 connector.

Overall, great TV especially for the price.

Wait, I just thought about this some more.

I went to the store to check out the TV. I'm very happy with it and am buying it. However I don't think I'll be able to get the 10%, here's why.

At the store the TV sells for $549. To get the web price you have to give them your CC# and they put an auth on your card till you pick it up then they run it through at the web price. I called and they would not hold it at the web price till I got there. I had to run it through on my CC. So.... whattya think I should do? About the only thing I can think of is try and get a MGR to honor the 10% and credit my card back.... it's a difference of about $50....

Sony's are fine set's, except when or if they do fail, they cost a lot more than
other brands to repair. They also cost more upfront, when compared to Sharp.
If you have the extra cash, get a Sony, but since this is a Hot Deals forum, stick
with Sharp for best overall price/performance/service bargin. All other major low
cost brands that I didn't mention, such as Panasonic, fall somewhere in the middle.

The 3 brands I keep for personal use, (all cost me zero), are
53" Sony, 27" JVC and 27" Sharp.
All other free set's are sold after repairing. (not here, please don't ask).
