Hi, I know this is very delayed but I just bought the UX-B20 refurb. fax, and would appreciate if someone can answer this, as I haven't a clue what to do.

The instruction manual states "remove tape". So I opened the panel & compartment cover, and saw a length of white thingie that may or may not be aforesaid "tape". When I gently tugged at it, a black thingie (cartridge? other?) began moving from the far right toward the left.

So what do I do now? I'm totally stumped.

The white thingie is the cable to the print head so you do not want to remove it. There was a piece of tape used to secure the print head during shipping but I don't think it was used in the refurbs. I don't remember one on mine when I bought it a couple of months ago.

This is a nice deal for someone who wants a good fax machine at a low cost.

Did you make sure the ink cart had the plastic tape removed??

I didn't even open the new ink cartridge box yet, since for all I know, that black thingie which got pulled leftward may be a used ink cartridge with ink left in it.

Dead deal or not, I made the purchase from Fry's last week, Sept. 23, for $9.99 plus $10.99 shipping, including the black ink cartridge.

I found the deal via Jokersmoker's post (searched hot deals forum).

I contacted Sharp with this very question, but they just passed me on to their 800-237-4277 number, so I'm still uninformed, cuz it's graveyard hours & besides, it's questionable whether phone support advises re: refurbs.

LOL, oops. It was on sale last week as miga mentioned so I thougt the deal was still good.

That black thingie is an empty ink cartridge holder. It's ok that you pulled it to the left with the cable as long as you didn't disconnect the cable or break it. Just follow the instructions and it will move the ink holder to the middle when it's ready for you to install the ink cartridge.



BTW, thanks for the deal Jokersmoker. I ordered it when you originally post this and forgot to say thanks. This item is no longer on their website. I guess they get a batch of them in and sell them at a low price until they are gone.

And, yes, I finally got it set up, after quite some hassle, via their phone personnel. Indeed, it was an empty cartridge, and as mentioned above, there was no tape inside the machine (rather the tape was only on the new cartridge, which I pulled off).

btw, I can't say their phone support was all that great (the sorta situation where you have to "walk on glass according to their agenda, or so help you.." Unless it was my particular brand of luck, to get just that particular person.

But now that it's up & running (for however long the ink lasts??) it's a smooth baby.
